Question about Meade TeleStar DS-2114ATSA Telescope

2 Answers

Ds2114ats-lnt I am a green rookie and was given a Meade DS2114ATS-LNY telescope. I followed the dvd instructions and have read the manual. I line it up properly with easy align for north and level 0. It doesn't seem to be able to find the alignment stars properly. Is there an easier way for me to get this thing working so I can look at some planets and stars etc? Is there a way to know which stars are in the sky so that I can line it up by their name? I was wondering about entering the R.A. co-ordinates but find it confusing. The manual says it is simple but it is not for me HELPPPPPPPPPPPPP

I was having the same issue. Training the drive cleared up my problem. Meade has a step by step procedure for this on their website. Like Joe L said you will still have to center the alignment star in the eyepiece.

You must CENTER the alignment stars -- usually they are near -- but may not be inside the eyepiece.

Centering the two stars makes the GOTOs accurate.

Make sure time, date, site, is correct--- and if your scope has a "training" routine in the manual--- be sure to do it.

I need a manual for operating the Telestar DS-114. I want to teach my class how to use the computer driver.

All the manuals are on the Meade website here:

http://www.meade.com/manuals/index.html

You can control a Meade scope using several different planetarium programs if you have the correct Meade cable.

Stellarium, and Cartes du Ciel both can control the scope. If you have a real serial port on your computer you can use the Meade cable and plug in to the bottom of the hand controller.

If your computer does not have serial ports then you must buy a USB to Serial adapter cable. Keyspan is a good brand.

Probably your hand controller cable is broken. First thing to try is a new hand controller cable.

Also check the small watch style battery inside the LNT module.

If a new cable and a new battery do not fix this then it an internal circuit gone bad. Only Meade can repair this:

Try the new cable first.

On my lx 90 LNT the DEC wheel came off, unable to reattach...?

You broke something??? Possibly this clutch kit will help you repair the scope-- or a return to Meade will be required.

Daylight / night focusing problem meade

First read the manual-- cover to cover:
http://www.meade.com/manuals/TelescopeManuals/Reflectors/DS2000%20manual.pdf

Then during the daytime-- put the lowest magnification eyepiece you have into the telescope(it's the one with the largest number written on it)-- and practice focusing on a distant object at least 100 yards away.

You have a GOTO scope but you must follow the alignment procedure in the manual for the scope -- or it will NOT find anything. The moon should be your first target at night--

Also suggest that you contact a local Astronomy club and attend their star parties-- they will be happy to help you learn how to use the telescope.
