I just bought this Printer and am in the process of setting it up. I install the drivers that come with it. In the Select Printer option i choose HP Design jet 3000cp (because 3800cp is not listed). The link below is a screen capture of the steps i am doing to install. http://www.gcsclothing.com/Install-Cap.rtf Well after i install the driver i go to print (i have the printer connected to my laptop using a parallel cable.) When i go to test print/photoshop print/MS Office Print it all does the same thing. It looks like it is going to print, a print window pops up and has a picture of my printer printing and then the little print icon appears on the task bar. Also at this time the printer status changes to receiving. Then all of a sudden the window and the icon disappear and the printer status goes back to ready and does nothing. I have tried it on two different computers but i keep getting the same result. What am i missing.
What are the operating systems of the computers? Have you checked that the printer is supported by these operating systems? There appear to be issues with Vista computers for driver for many peripherals Suggest you contact HP rethis one By the way your Screen shot that mode is it? I dont seem to be able to open it with the regular programs.
Screenshots are image files - usually JPEG
Word pad is a text editor not an image editor
I notice you say you have connected by parallel cable.
In fact printers these days are universally USB and the XP will look for a USB connection
So check where your printer driver is directed -
Parallel will be LPT1
USB will be printer USB
Go to Start Printers faxes right click printer and then click properties to check the driver
Go to Start /Control Panel/system/Device Manager look ay LPT and the run down the USB connection to to USB printer connexion.

looks like you are doing it right- but there is perhaps a subtle difference perhaps between the correct driver and the alternative you have selected
So it would seem the Hp are at fault.

both computers were running Windows xp (one Home edition and one pro edition). oh and the screen shots were saved onto wordpad.

on the printer properties it is clicked to LPT and in the device manager it is on the list.
Would using a parallel to usb do anything?
thank you. i will check out their website for drivers and e-mail their tech support.
