Bad technicians always say picture tube problem when the TV has black screen with sound. This a false statement and in some cases techniciacns use this to scare the owner or the charge a hefty amount. The truth is that picture tube outlast most component in the TV. If it will fail, it is gradual like the colors will fade or one or several color will be missing. This condition is the degration of the filament in the gun (CRT tv has three -Red, green , blue) I started to repair TV in the early 80's and only in one occasion that the Tube fail and it is a crack in the neck. For black screen with sound, the most common cause is the HV supply problem / Horizontal section. This can be caused by many things, like flyback transformer failure, horizontal outout transistor, horizontal drive, etc. For the cost-depends on where you are, in some countries labor is dirt cheap, in other ountries the parts are expensive.

Black screen but i do have sound

HelloCheck the backlight inverter board. If it has damged, most common fault to LCD TVs, there will be no backlight to the LCD screen, and will look black. Your tV has sound output without picture. This means that all other boards ar functioning well. Check the backlight inverter section and CCFL tubes used in backlight assembly. OK.

Screen is blank but can hear all the channels. cable guide shows up but no picture. What do you think the problem is

The video circuit section of your LCD needs service and this will require board level troubleshooting and by a qualified service tech. There is a light tube or floresent tube that excites the liquid crystals to give visual to the screen and it may have blown and needs replacement.

I have two Tech view 42" ptsw4200u televisions. The screens do not come on and stay black

the backlight might be burned out the Televisions(LCD) use a flourecent tube to light up the screen. I would either have a professional replace the backlight or buy a new TV. I do not know about plasma TVs and how they are lit up if your TV is a plasma screen TV I woulsd consult a professional or the manufacturer of the TV for Help.

I have an RCA F27636BC made in Oct. of 96 and I

There are a few possible reasons, the first being that the tube has burned out inside the TV. But before jumping to that conclusion I would check to make sure that your A/V cables are connected properly (video being the yellow cable, or if you may be using S-video which is a black cable that has 4 steel pins and 1 horizontal black plastic or metal one) and make sure that you have the cables plugged into the same numbered input: ie. Audio is in audio 1 and video is in video 1 rather than audio being in audio 1 and video being in video 2.
Also be sure that you've selected the right input from the remote or from the television itself.

I have audio, but no video, what's up? last night I was watching, and the picture went out, I truned off the TV, then restarted it...the picture came back. Today I tryed to turn it on and no picture, just...

s the audio coming from the TV's internal speakers, or from an external sound system? In the 169 series chassis, if the power supply caps or secondary rectifier are bad, or if the high voltage splitter has shorted inside, the set will not run and there will be no picture or sound from the TV. If the picture is completely black but the TV still has audio, press the menu button and see if the menu comes up on the screen. If the menu is there, check your cables on the back of the TV. If you are using a cable or satellite box, the box could be bad or the video wire could be bad or loose. If you do not get the on-screen menu, then I would guess that the solder joint next to the flyback transformer that sends filament (heater) voltage up to the picture tubes has cracked, or the low value resistor in the heater circuit has opened up. If that is the case, have the set serviced by a qualified tech familiar with the 169 series chassis.

Flashing light

this unit will have what is called ik protection wich means that the picture tubes are constantly monitor with this system all the way to the video procesor so the picture will desapear to a black screen even if the audio is ok,there may be a solution if contract a tech like me to adjust the bias so that compensates the drives to the pictures tubes since 1 or the 3 pt are week at this point.
