Re: Television has audio but a black screen
Bad technicians always say picture tube problem when the TV has black screen with sound.
This a false statement and in some cases techniciacns use this to scare the owner or the charge a hefty amount.
The truth is that picture tube outlast most component in the TV. If it will fail, it is gradual like the colors will fade or one or several color will be missing. This condition is the degration of the filament in the gun (CRT tv has three -Red, green , blue)
I started to repair TV in the early 80's and only in one occasion that the Tube fail and it is a crack in the neck.
For black screen with sound, the most common cause is the HV supply problem / Horizontal section. This can be caused by many things, like flyback transformer failure, horizontal outout transistor, horizontal drive, etc.
For the cost-depends on where you are, in some countries labor is dirt cheap, in other ountries the parts are expensive.

* Brand and Model # required for more specific instructions.
* Old (tube style, not flat screen) TV? High voltage CKT blew out. Dump TV and upgrade. FYI as of Jan 2018 the cable companies have switched to all Digital (yours is still analog)
* Digital TV? Computer Chips only "Pop" when they blow. Most are not replaceable (by non-tech customer).
* Capacitors also go "Pop" but again are difficult for the non-tech to repair.
* Check your warranty and call for service.
The tv CRT-(tv tube) screen itself is broken now or dying already and tv PCB board broken require replacing too,tv will still work after replacing PCB board or repairing it but tv will not be watchable becauuce tv screen will all mess up like screw up picture colors will have black and blue colors be all over the tv screen.Tv now will not be worth repairing if require replacing CRT-(tv tube) will cost the same as a new tv if tries replacing CRT-(tv tube) if u still can buy it.Can't buy analog CRT-(tv tube) anymore.Sorry time to buy a new tv.
most picture tube tv have a deflection circuit, usually located in the main board. ausuall suspects are the horizontal out transistor, the horizontal output transformer, and the voltage regulator(usually found in the power supply circuit). If you are familiar with the use of a multimeter and short testing for transistors, you might be able to repair any of these mentioned components, but if you have no experience around these components. best to leave it to an experienced tech to give you an estimation on repair costs. don't forget to unplug all electrical connections brfore working on any electrical circuitry before removing the back cover.
Immirella, If you don't have extended warranty you will need to repair it yourself or contract out the work. This seems like (from your description
) that one or more of the units DC voltage sources on the "switch-mode-power-supply has failed and is now in partial shutdown mode. Yes, the unit still has operating voltage source for the digital, tuner, and audio circuits. You may or may not see an image on the screen if you hear audio and shine a very bright flashlight 1 inch from the lcd panel. You should pay a visit to YOUTUBE (just FYI) to check-out repair video clips of LCD monitors and LCD tv's. Your unit (FYI) is classed as BLACK SCREEN of DEATH. Same as any other brand of LCD monitor or tv. Call a local repair tech for more info. Good luck. 12fixlouie

faults & possible causes to LCD & Plasma screen are given with illustrations. You can get an idea about the fault to an extent. Faults to all LCD & Plasma screen are similar, irrespective of its brand and screen size.
This is the best solution for your problem as a 40 year experience with wires etc.
Go to the source of your cable signal connector .
Open it and clean the terminals with emery paper , sand the end of the cable shiny clean from corrosion , get a new barrel connectors with gold terminals if possible lengthen the ends of the cable , insert and tighten good, use thick rg-16 or rg 40 cable with good insulation ends crimped professionally with a crimpier or buy ready made , not from dollar store. Get a gold plated professional splitter if you need one or two , it will cost about 15 or more each . Make the cable runs as short as possible, using the thick good cables. If needed get a signal magnifier. From radio shack or the source etc. Connect them good and tight . Ground the splitters . Problem solved , you will get crystal clear channel 2 to 7 including 3 and 4 . Isolate the TV cable from other cables and power wires.
There is no bulb in that model TV. There are 3 crt type tubes. You'll have to have a TV shop determine the cause. It could be many things like no high voltage present, cathode voltage missing. If the tubes are finished, the cost to replace them is quite high. It is a complicated repair since the tubes have to be properly aimed and converged. The repair cost in this worst case scenario would be greater than buying a flat screen TV with the same screen size.
you have no horizontal drive to fire up the high voltage section to produce brightness, possible horizontal transistor (output) shorted .they cost around 20.00.take set to shop for repair, also ask for est. of cost to repair.
There are no tubes, except the picture tube, to replace.. itys a solid state set. your problem is most likly thefiliment circuiut on the crt board, or maybe a verticle problem. I would say with A set of this ventage, will most likly cost to repair more then the sets worth.
