Take batteries out and have them checked, and make sure they are fully charged. Take a pencil eraser and clean/polish the contacts at base of the battery compartment Take a look at the battery-comp cover place and make sure the contact plate is firm replace batteries switch on OK No? Open the battery compartment, place a piece of foil across the batteries and shut it - turn on -OK No? Press the cover in OK No? Them it has broken beyond your reach and needs repair or replacement

PowershotA2400is len cannot retract

Are you sure the battery still has enough power (even after charging) to let the lens motor do its job?
Are you sure there is no mechanical problem, you can see on the outside? Did anyone stop the lens, while it was coming out? Did anyone drop the camera, while the lens was out?
There cam be a lot of reasons, why a lens won't retract. Could be some force was used, also could be something just went wrong inside the camera. Like a gear that broke inside, or the motor stopped working. A contact failed and perhaps lots of other things.
If you already took out the battery, and reinserted it, and nothing changed, The only thing you than can do is after getting the battery out, is recharge the battery and then put it in.
If you have a spare battery, or you know anyone who has the same battery, try that battery. If nothing indicates a mechanical failure, and nothing helps, just contact the Canon Service Centre closest to you. First ask what a possible repair will cost. hen decide if you would like it repaired or you want a new camera.
New camera's are much better and cheaper than cameras last year.

Hello! i own a canon s410 powershot, the camera got broken,i was given a canon a530 powershot and i want to use the software that came with s410,is that possible?my next question is about the the windows...

No, it's not likely to be compatible. The problem is that Canon did not update the drivers for many of its older cameras under the Vista operating system. So you're likely to run into problems downloading directly from the camera using the software. But there are other options, such as using an inxepensive card reader (can get them online for $2) to download your photos:

But back to your S410, what exactly is wrong with it? By chance if it's taking black, pink, or distorted pictures, please see this:

Camera does not start up

The E18 error is fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension.
Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. Have already fixed several cameras with this problem by using these methods:

Flash doesnt work

There is a small battery (or large capacitor) inside your camera that stores a charge for when the flash fires. If you dropped your camera and hit the right spot, this battery may have been bumped out of position. A solution would be to open up your camera to see, but this is obviously risky and can void a warranty if you still have one. If you do choose to look inside, be sure to not tear any gentle wiring as this can ruin your camera for good (I know because it's happened to me).
