HDD trouble It will not reconize the HDD, or it complains about cable select. Ok I am a novice when it comes to laptop repair... I recived this laptop from a friend and it had this same problem then. It turns on and trys to boot the HDD, but it cant. The screen goes fuzzy, and then warps then returns to normal. it says that is cant read the disk. I took the HDD out of it and it seems that there is nothing wrong with it. So i changed the jummpers and then it complaned about cable select. I have no idea what that is... I have a toshiba satilite from 95, yes it is old but I knew that the HDD worked.... So I tryed putting it in the compaq, and it did not even turn on... in the magic year of 2006 HP added the F11 key to the old Compaq line. (hp bought)
so if the PC is still 100% HP and the hard drive not slammed with alien MS disks, from MS. then the recover partition works
so power on F11 hammer f11 fast, and bingo F11 recovery runs. pick fix startup files repair
fails still then reload the whole OS now back to DAY1.
all HP do this 2006 to now.
all do unless is bad or was bad long ago HDD bad, HDD SLAMMED.

my guess you ran DBAN, and why not fess up and say the full name of the product, (app) or there web site you got it URL
then we know what you did,.

DBAN erases it all the HDD is just empty space
and F11 is gone gone for ever more.
then you can do this.
see the 6 ways here, #1 is now erased leaving 5
#2 is gone at HP this old.

The SATA port on the motherboard or the SATA cable or the HDD itself could be bad.

Power comes from the power supply. Check yellow and black and red and black. You need both 5v and 12v. Are you sure you have the jumper set correctly for the application? Master or single - master with slave present or some computers require CS (cable select)

check the cable & more better way use duel usb cable which occupy 2 usb & i Normal Hdd connector

enter service mode, select state confirmation, select memory/hdd adj, select hdd format, select physical format, press start button, when displays ok turn off main power for 10 seconds, c-d010 will display again, repeat instructions and do logical format, turn main power off for 10 seconds..should be ok
