Question about Pioneer SD-643HD5 64" Rear Projection Television

Pioneer SD-643HD5 64 in. Rear Projection

I have Blue lines across in the lower 1/3 of the screen. Every object or text that are white will be yellowish and a shadow in blue will project about a feet above. Only in the lower part of the screen. The rest of the screen have regular color but not 100% sharp. Is that a bulb to change or a more complicated problem that needs an expert?

Blue lines flash across the screen and color is yellowish on SD-643HD5

It sounds like a convergence problem---a lot of shops will not work on the set you have (that brand) as they are difficult to get parts or even technical support from.

The convergence is most likely--simple to prove==when bad go to menu and select convergence--if blue way off and or skewed it is your problem.

I worked on a number of these and when they would come in other techs would decline to fix them--I got familiar with them and my boss was glad someone would fix them as they were expensive sets when new.

We had someone "Deposit" one with the remote and full service manual outside our shop and I fixed that one also===crazy as the dual manuals were over 100 each and the set was 16X9 Hd.

Wavy lines appear across the screen

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Blue streaks across picture

Can you describe in a little more detail what the symptoms are? Are the streaks thin lines or are they large thick swashes of Blue? Is yur video still visible? Sounds like it may be the blue convergence amps or the resistor tied into the amps. is there anyway you can post a picture of your screen distortion?

Color problem

Did you try alignment of color convergence in setting up. Try this
1 Press MENU
2 Select SET UP
3 Select CONVERGENCE
4 Select screen mode ZOOM this accesses the center convergence adjustment.Press set/enter
5 Use arrow keys to aline the red cross to the white cross.Press set/enter
6 Use arrow keys to alingn the blue line in the same manner. Once adjustment is complete press MENU to turn the menu off.
I hope this helps if you cant move the red or blue lines you face the same problem I face. I still havent gotton any solutions to my post about being unable to adjust the red line. You could also call Pioneer's help line 800-421-1404.
