I was searching on Google for sermons on abortion. I had gone to several websites when a ''warning'' window opened from my AVG virus protector program. While I was reading the ''options'' as to what I should do, I noticed a lot of windows began opening. I minimized my AVG window and noticed on my desktop there was an icon ''For Men Only''. I have no idea where that came from. I then opened my AVG program and began a full computer scan. After about 15 minutes of scanning, a small window popped up stating that there was an error and the computer must shut down, of which it did. Now, I cannot re-boot as the computer gets to the Windows XPportion of the boot and starts to reboot again and again. I have a HP Pavilion dv 4000 laptop.

By using the F8 key, I can get to the Windows Advanced Options Menu window with several options. When I highlight the Safe Mode option and hit enter, it goes to enter password screen, I enter my password then, the Windows XP screen appears as if it is about to reboot computer, and then tries to reboot again and agin.

When I use the Safe Mode with Command Prompt as an option, I get a list of a dozens or more files like

multi (o) disk (o) rdisk(o)partition(1)\Windows\System32\Drivers ..., then it jumps back to my password window, I enter the password, it tries to reboot without success. It will not go into Safe Mode.

Try starting your computer in safe mode and do a virus scan once in safe mode. While in safe mode Windows only loads the basic devices to run your computer and usually viruses are not loaded untill windows starts in regular mode. Don't panic once you are in safe mode and your screen looks all grainy, this is normal.

  1. Restart your computer and press F8 as soon as you turn it on.
  2. Click the "safe mode with networking" option
  3. Update your antivirus
  4. Do a full system scan
  5. Restart your computer and hope for the best.
If that doesn't work, than reinstall windows.
If you need further assistance, let me know.

I would reinstall windows. If you have the windows cd that your computer came with, insert it into to cd drive and restart your computer. It should boot up off the cd.

    Good luck.

Try booting into safe mode? on a pc hit F8 repeatedly while you boot until you get a boot screen with the safe mode option. Some laptops have differant keys, eg F2, <Del>, F10, but ussualy they state this when it boots up.

when you get into safe mode, go to your run prompt and type "msconfig" hit enter. got to startup, disable all.Go to services, disable all. reboot. if this works, try running an pdated antivirus scan. I recommend using Avast! which is like AVG. It can do a start up scan. also try running something like 'trojan remover' which is free to download.

Good luck! :)
