Smeg Dishwasher My dishwasher has suddenly started making an awful grating noise when it starts up. My husband found a small screw at the bottom but can't work out where it has come from. It still works perfectly. Any ideas?

Smeg Dishwasher Humming Noise

Hi olsworth,

I think you may have something hung up in the pump.  This is a bad situation.  See if you can remove the dish baskets, and remove the strainer cover in the bottom of the chamber and see if something is in the pump drain area. I am not real familiar with the Smeg, But I do know that humming is related to the pump motor in a strain. I will study this more and get back with you soon.  Please do not vote yet.  I am wanting to get this solved for you, and it may take a bit of study on my part to get you an answer.  Please give some feedback in to what you are finding on your end.

Very noisy wash cycle

most times i have found a foriegn object in the pump. sometimes the machine will clear it itself but other times you have to take the pump apart. it is not too difficult but you will need a size T15 and T20 Torx aka (star) bit to get it apart. Just keep taking out screws until the filter flowplate lifts off.

Dishwasher Making Loud High Pitched Noise.

A loud high pitch whine while running the dishwasher means that there is something caught in the chopper assembly. To get to the chopper assembly you need to take the racks out and take the pump apart from the inside of the dishwasher. The chopper assembly looks like a metal grate with holes in it. And it might not even be stuck in the grate but somewhere in the pump area due to the water being pumped out, so the best idea is to take the whole thing apart and clean everywhere. However I do not recommend doing this unless you are completely certain you will remember where the screws and gaskets go, otherwise you risk damaging your pump or house from a leak or improper installation. You have been warned.
