Starts up but once at Menu screen nothing happens or works
Battery died. Plugged Zen Xtra in to charge. Screen immediately lights up and it starts rebuilding library. It gets to the menu screen and the "play" icon is on. I hear a loud pop followed by a half-second of music then another loud pop and then nothing else happens. None of the buttons work prior to start-up, during rebuild or once it gets to the menu screen - it simply locks up and is frozen with the screen on. Have tried the reset button and it just repeats the same cycle. Help please before I go deaf from the loud pops or I throw this darn thing out of frustration - so much great music I'd hate to lose.

First thing, make sure your battery is charged. When you power on your player, put it close to your ear.If you can hear the hard drive (a faint clicking noise) then your hard drive may be stuck. When you power on player, tap coner of player on mouse pad while player is booting up.If it doesn't work, try again, tapping a little harder. This is a common problem with these players.Good Luck
After 3 1/2 hours, the battery went dead. I waited a couple of minutes, then plugged it into my computer to see if the battery would charge. It started charging. A few hours later I went back to check on it, and it showed a full battery. I disconnected it from my computer, and turned it on. It came on, but the screen just said "Low Battery". I then plugged it back into my computer, and the screen said "Rebuilding Library". I left it for about a 1/2 hour, and it was done. I unplugged it from my computer, turned it on, and it works now!! Hope this helps out everyone else who has the same problem.
This is an issue with the power supply, believe it or not. I just resolved this for a friend by changing the power supply. An old nokia 5v power supply will make a good alternative if you don't have an OEM replacement.
. How to reset Zen v + http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22T_gkkZjmM&feature=related Zen Vision:M Not Responding SOLUTION! to No Charge, Device Not Connected or Recognize http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10960 If that doesn't fix it trythe USB cable
Did you charge the unit over night? When they are brand new, the batteries are not always charged. See if the lights and screen come on when it is plugged into the charger. If so let it charge over night and try turning it on again. Otherwise, you should probably return the unit.
You could try cleaning the contacts on both the battery and the player (make sure it's unplugged) with some alcohol on a cotton swab. Other than that your battery may just have completely died and you'll have to purchase a new one.
Hope this helps,
"If your Zen is dead, wont respond to anything, try this, plug it in to the computer, hold the power switch in the on position, THEN trigger the reset button, worked like a charm for mine, I had thought it a lost cause."
