Windows 98 se, xp not installed to compaq armada E500 pc notebook
I have a compaq armada E500 pc laptop, but not available compaq restor CD or floppy, thats why i could not install windows 98 se, windows Xp operating system due to hard disk not configured properly by fdisk or partition magic whatever. pls try to solve my problem and provide any restore cd if availabe. thanking you.
Re: windows 98 se, xp not installed to compaq armada E500...
First, format the hard drive and make sure it is in FAT or FAT32 for Windows 98 install. Then do your partitioning etc and should work. If it doesn't, it is possibly a hardware fault.

The Armada series are really nice pice of art. A bit old but nice... so, u can't login on windows? Use a Windows XPE (yeah, with "E") CD... on the iNet are many of those, and most of them come with a software for "unlocking" any user password of Windows XP.
And if u are talking about the password of the BIOS then u will have to open u notebook and remove the CMOS battery for minimun 1 minute. That will restore the default settings of your notebook, the settings that comes from factory, deleting any configuration made by the user.
you can safely install up to a 80 GB HDD in that compaq. When getting into the bios go to the boot sequence section and change the boot squence to be CD=>HDD=>FLOPPY or FLOPPY=>CD=>HDD
Did you change the '1st boot' drive to the optical drive?
If you haven't, you need to enter the BIOS setup and change from C: to whatever your optical drive is named and then change it back once the operating system is installed on the C: drive.
could you start setup from windows? if you can, do that. but the not booting from CD problem, it might just be the cd cause that's happened to me where certain cd's won't boot.
First tell that which O/S it had earlier coz armada e500 notebook comes with 64 MB RAM and 12 GB HARD DISK , had you upgraded your notebook with RAM AND HARD DISK . If not then check the hard disk space you have left in the notebook

try booting to DOS screen only by inserting a boot-able floppy disc (I use Win ME disc at this point although my system is also Win XP). Then select "boot with CD-ROM driver". It will detect your CDROM drive and assign a letter. Now insert the CD and boot from there. I have done this sequence many times with no problems.
