Dell 540 photo printer

My printer starting printing pictures with green and red vertical lines in them. I have tried new ink and paper and tried printing from the computer and memory stick. it still does it. i can print a test page and it is fine, but photos are liney. Dell had no solution, but to say that my printer heads were bad and it was no good anymore. it has only had about 200 uses since it was purchased. any help would be appreciated!!

Nothing for you to fix. if the heaters are burned out then that's it; its a dead printer
    But before you junk it
Do get on to Dell tech help- or better still as Dell do not actually make peripherals such as this but simply buy a regular model and put their label on it- carefully examine it for any tell tale indicator who did maker it- it may be a patch of lettering molded into the plastic for example - or by comparing the refill pack with a similar one from a regular maker - then when you have found out -get onto them.

This evening I bought a new HP Photosmart C4780 printer. I am trying to print photos now and the photos are being printed with small vertical lines across the whole photo. How do I get rid of them?

> I bought a new printer

Take it back, and get one that does work correctly.

> VERTICAL lines ACROSS the whole photo

Hold the paper in "portrait" mode, not "landscape" mode.
Are the lines HORIZONTALLY-ACROSS the paper,
or VERTICALLY-DOWN the paper?

If those lines are WHITE and HORIZONTAL,
then some of the many ink-jets inside the print-head are *CLOGGED*.
Run a "print-head-cleaning-cycle" to try to unclog it.
Or, exercise the WARRANTY, and get it replaced.

Dell 720 color cartridge doesn't seem to be printing with enough 'green'...all pics tinted red. New cartridge. Is is possible to balance the color any better?

Run a "print-head-cleaning" cycle -- some of the ink-jets may be clogged, thus reducing the amount of ink reaching the paper.

Try "photo-quality" paper.

Vertical line appears on the paper, when copying/printing from the top feeder of my Dell 962 All-in-one printer

I think this is due to some nozzle on the cartridge that doesn't jet because it is clogged ( hardened ink )..Try to wipe the cartridge in a damp cloth and print again..I hope this could help...

Dell 922 printer alignment problem-

try this...

Aligning Ink Cartridges Your printer automatically aligns the ink cartridges when they are installed or replaced. To verify your ink cartridges are aligned, you can print an alignment page. After you close the printer unit, press the Menu button. The alignment page begins printing. During printing, the operator panel display reads Alignment Page Printing. When complete, the message reads Auto Alignment Complete. Your ink cartridges are now aligned for optimal print quality.
You may also need to align ink cartridges when characters are not properly formed or are not aligned at the left margin, or when vertical or straight lines appear wavy.
To align the ink cartridges:
  1. Load plain paper. For more information, see Loading Paper.

  2. Click Start® Programs or All Programs® Dell Printers® Dell Photo AIO Printer 922® Dell Printer Solution Center.

  3. Click the Maintenance tab

  4. Click Align to fix blurry edges.

  5. Click Print.

The ink cartridges align when the page prints.

If this helps you plz rate this fixya. Thank you kindly. If you need more help post it & I'll be glad to do what I can.

Horizontal colored lines through grayscale printed photos

Hi George,

It sound's like an ink-feed issue:

1) Dirty heads, even after cleaning
2) No-ink or poor quality ink
3) Damaged head: some are part of the cartridge, some are not
4) Air bubbles in ink

The test page is typically not as hi-res nor as saturated as a
photo print. The hi-res photo puts the greatest demand on the print head.

The color lines you see are actually lines of missing color,
where the head has failed to deposit ink, so one or two primary
colors are missing from the complete picture.

For example missing yellow will make a blue line.
Missing magenta will make a green line
Missing cyan will make a red line.... etc..

Clean the heads again and again, print again and again,
hoping to flush the system.

BUT, keep in mind that cleaning wastes huge amounts of
ink and tiny little cartridges of ink cost more than many new printers.
