Question about Sony Grand WEGA KF50XBR800 50" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
Our sony grand wega tv went black on us and the service light is flashing. it will be over $100 just to have someone come to look at it since we live in the country, any suggestions on what it could be or has anyone else had the same problem?
Is there a light flashing on the front? If you are getting a lamp light flashing you may need to order a lamp, that is a +/- $300 proposition. If you have a light flashing check for a repeating pattern, like codes on car flashing the check engine light. It may blink like 6 times successively then pause, then blink 6 more then repeat, this is a code 6, the codes will give some Idea of what is wrong (P.S. usually code 6 is a bad thermal fuse for the lamp on most Sony PROJO LCD's and would have to be changed out by a Technician).

I think replacing the bulb/lamp should fix the problem(unless it is the thermal fuse like mentioned by leslake). The model you need for your Grand Wega is called the Sony XL 5200. I recommend buying from DLPLamps.com, they've been a great help to me in the past and they come with instructions for installation when you buy from them.

If your Sony Wega will not turn on, the front green light blinks, you hear a faint whirring sound and the green light turns red and flashes, it probably means the lamp inside the set is no longer working. If you noticed the screen beginning to dim in the preceding days or weeks, this most likely is the cause.
If the green light flashes and the picture comes on momentarily but then goes off, and the green button flashes until the set restarts, then the seal around the lamp mount is loose and needs to be refitted.
If the picture on your Grand Wega cuts in and out and the green standby light flashes, both of the set's STKs need to be replaced. STKs are small chips on your television's circuit boards and are identifiable by their labels. The specific STKs used in your Grand Wega TV will be identifiable by the numbered labels on top of the STKs.
When you plug in your Sony Wega and hear a loud popping sound, it's probably caused by a defect in the high-voltage circuit. Let the professionals take care of this one.
If, after turning on your Sony Wega, you can hear your set but the screen is black, you most likely need to replace your projection lamp.

Is there a source for the sony lamp XL-200U. It seems to look like replacing the bulb inside the lamp housing to be better than buying the whole thing. The # on the bulb itself is UHP 100 watt L2 and 1- 517-507-15. Does anyone have a possible source for this bulb.
My 2004 42 inch Sony Grand Wega model # KDF-42WE655 went black and soundless on us a few days ago. I turn it on and the green light flashes while "trying to turn on" 56 times. It then shuts off and the red lamp light comes on. Seems like a replacement lamp is in need. A XL-2000 replacement lamp is what I believe I need. Sony website has these for $200.00 which is fine but I am looking for info on how to replace it myself and not carry to and from and pay the high price for a repairman. Is it a matter of taking the back off the t.v. pulling the old out and putting the new in? Thanks!
