I have an HP LaserJet 1000 in my home office. A couple years ago, in another home office, I had it networked so both my computers would print from it, so I know it is possible to do. Now, in my new office, I have several computers hardwired through a workgroup - router box. We also have three personal laptops that we use wireless. Issue: only the computer physically hooked to the printer will print. Have enabled sharing and all that, but cannot make it work with the downloaded "newest" driver. Have been told the 1000 is a single-user machine but that there is a workaround - possibly a "general" driver? I know there is a way because I have made it work in the past. I just don't know how I did it, grins. We run Windows XP pro or home on all our machines. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can lend.
Hi Stukie, Something you can try. Install the downloaded "newest" driver in all you PCs and laptops even if they cannot see or share with the PC print server. If you can successfully install on each PC, then you try changing the port setting of the printer on each PC. Go to Start, Printers and Faxes, Right click on the HP LaserJet 1000 (assuming you were able to install on every PC), click on Properties, click on Ports Tab, Click on Add Port, Double click Standard TCP/IP Port. A new window will pop up > Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard, in the IP Address, type in the IP add of the PC where the printer is installed, Port Name can be any name but try the Shared Name of the Printer, Next and follow all other instructions. Hope this works for you and pls post again how things turn up. Kind regards.
