Switch off camera remove batteries and leave for an hour or so. Replace batteries wet it as if you are going to use the flask and hold it to your ear. Can you hear a high pitched whine. if yeas then you have a processor fault or flash lamp fault If no then the Flash charge unit has died. If it is still under warranty that is the way to go. If not try Vivitar website for Technical help

Unable to get Vivitar 2800 on Canon XSI to work.

DANGER! Don't try it again!

That flash is an old fashioned thyrister flash intended for 35mm film cameras ONLY. The voltage which it passes through the foot contacts can fry digital camera circuitry.

It will not work with your camera, you must get a modern unit suited to digital cameras instead. If you're lucky, then your camera has been unharmed, but if not then you are looking at expensive and possibly uneconomical repairs which will not be covered by the warranty.

The 2800 is a great general purpose flash, but it's design pre-dated the widespread use of digital SLR's. Vivitar did release a digital-friendly version called the 2800D. You can use the 2800D on 35mm film cameras as well, but must not use the original 2800 on digital models.

Hopefully your camera is OK and you'll keep your flash well away from it..

How do i get the flash to work on my vivitar vivicam 5022 camera

Make sure you're not in the macro mode. There's a slide switch on the end of the camera, near the SD card slot. Set this switch to the mountain position.
Also bear in mind that the flash is only for still photos, not for videos.

How do I set vivitar 5199 to take close up photos of artwork? The flash in each flash setting spoils the photos and indoor photos without the flash some up AVI

this is a cheaper camera so most likley will not be able to do so. these cameras have trouble focusing up close. but its worth a try. You can go on to www.youtube.com to find instruction on how to make a home made diffuser for your flash from a milk jug. Hope this helps -Richard

Can the Vivitar 283 be used safely on Nikon Digital SLR Cameras?

I assume you're asking about the 283, not the DF-283 which is compatible with digital cameras.

As for the 283, yes, if you put an adapter such as the Wein Safe-Sync between the camera and the flash. Under no circumstances should the flash be mounted directly on the camera.

Bright pictures

If this is in the normal modes, try the following.

Go to the set up or menu and reset all.. what you are doing is resetting all settings back to default or factory settings.
If the problem does not show at all in any of the menus or playback from a card, then the problem is more than likely a ccd problem of some kind. This problem may be fixed for free, not sure if Vivitar will fix, but worth a try to email or call them at:
Go to:
http://vivitar.com/en-us/Support.aspx
Ask for your model.

Can't turn on Vivitar 4345 digital camera

Searching google groups shows others with problems after attaching Vivitar cameras to PC's & then not working. The only fix seems to be leaving the battery out until the camera resets itself. If you can get to the setup menu then try the "default" option to reset the camera to factory settings.
