The fax machine is displaying the message that there is no ink catridge. It has four ink cartridges, three of which are color cartridges. I have reinstalled the same four cartridges several times. They all have ink in them and the machine won't go through the protocol. All we need is black. Is there any way to bypass printing in color and go to black so that the faxes which are coming in can print out? The problem is with one of the color cartridges. I tried switching around color cartridges in case it was a simple connection problem. I did try powering the machine down and back on again which didn't make any difference.

the only one thing you can to do is stick masking tape around the cartridge, there is an switch, when you take off the cartidge the switch is off, when you put it on the switch is on, this is out = "off" and in= "on", do the same with the other colors.
greetings.
Unfortunately there is no way to bypass color printing. If you are not using genuine Brother color ink cartridges then that may be the problem. Brother is very particular about which cartridges you use. If you are using Brother cartridges then it may be that the one that is not working is simply a dud. Try returning the cartridge and swapping it out for a new if you can, otherwise buy a new one. If it still does not work then the problem is on the machine side. If you have had the machine for less than a year then Brother can do warranty work on it.

Plug the fax phone cord into the LINE port of the machine. The rest is automatic.

I have this book to this printer, but the printer is tour-up. all you have to do is open the cover, and to your right will be 4 cartridges, release the latch on them, remove by pulling up on them, then replace them, the same way you took them out. Hope this helps
