I have a sony 52 inch wegagate dlp ty that has a dim picture what could be the problem?

unplug the tv for about 5 minutes then plug it back in

That problem is cause of bad capacitors on the board...

usually faulty capacitors can determine on its actual image...it is bulged on the top or leak on oil...

you can easily trace that if bulged but if not you need a capacitance meter to check the value of the capacitors...

if you found any bad capacitors...you can replace it on you own..

please replace only in the same type ratings and value..

You have some bad capacitors in your set. If you are knowledgeable on electronis components and how they react in a circuit you can check them and replace them yourself. If not have a service tech do the job for you. However if you are electronic savvy then check all the caps in the high voltage section of your set and replace all weak or leaky caps this will fix your problem

Have you had the projectors dusted? They'll acculate a lot over the years and you'll notice some dimming as time goes by.

There should be a setting in the menu of the TV to turn off the auto dim feature (used for adjusting the brightness of the picture depending on ambient room lighting) I don't have a Sony LCD here with me to walk you through the menu settings, but I am certain it is there somewhere. (Chased this issue for the wife who had the same displeasure you're having)
