Same problem but stip is about 1/3 over from teh left. AND TV is out of warranty. I thought maybe a connection to that portion of the display. Odd that pixels in one area would all go simultaneously

Ok if your hitachi TV dies with no power anywhere try this:
Some models have a kill switch under the bottom edge. It's like a gray switch like a small light switch press it back in and voila let there be LIGHT. Saves you at least a $200 trip to repair shop!!

The tv is shot. This occurs when pixels on the top row of the screen break, which blocks current from moving through the rest of the pixels in that column. But don't worry this problem is common and is covered in your tv's warranty.

Black vertical strip on Hitachi plasma

seems like a lose ground issue from the vertical scan board which usually causes this problem. A scan board repair or replacement should fix this intermittent problem.....take it too your local repair shop before this problems spreads and the tv totally shuts down....

Hitachi 42HDS69 Blue Vertical Lines

I think that you have dry solder joints on either the vertical scan board, the focus board, the line output stage, or the chroma panel. Hope this helps.

Black line in center of screen

These black lines on the plasma screens are very fixable.  There is a dry solder joint on a circuit board at the bottom of the plasma that needs resoldered.  There are 6 or 7 "ribbons" along the bottom of the screen that correspond to vertical sections of the display, so you just follow the black vertical line down to figure out which one is faulty.  I just performed this fix successfully on my first attempt on a Gateway plasma, but it will work on most plasma's, specifically Hitachi, gateway, LG, Hyundai, & Akai. I think they may all have LG boards, my gateway did.
I can't really describe very well what to do, but I assure you it is fixable.  If anyone is near nashville, I might be able to help you out.  My email is [email protected]
thanks,
ST
