Need Help with Restore CD's

I'm fixing a computer for a friend and when he gave me the computer to fix, the Restore CD's were scratched awfully. On the Second CD, files were missing due to the scratches on the CD and it will not install. The Computer is an E-Machines W4682 Desktop. Both Optical Drives scratch CD's. I put my window3s XP CD in and it scratched it all up too. Anyt suggestions?

I suggest that you replace that optical drive and down load the restore disk from the manufacturers' website.

Hi. Welcome to fixya!
The probable cause of the corrupted files is your computer is having a difficult time reading your disc. This might be because of too many scratches on the installation CD. You can try to clean your CD-ROM or try to clean the CD itself. Try to follow the steps provided by this website http://www.howtocleanstuff.net/how-to-fix-a-scratched-cd-or-dvd/ on how to fix scratches on your CD.
Be careful on fixing CD scratches it might further damage you CD.
There is a second option that you can do and that would be to download the game using EA DOWNLOAD MANAGER. If you are able to register your game online you can download EA DOWNLOAD MANAGER. You have to sign in using the email and password you used when registering your game and when signed in you can find the game you have registered and download it.
I hope this solved your problem. Have a nice day!

The disc is scratches

If the scratches are only fine then you can polish out these scratches.
You need to purchase a CD scratch polishing kit from the computer shop or from the Internet.
Follow the instruction on the CD polishing kit.

My friend gave me an HP G60 and told me that you can log in but it just shows a black screen. After I log in, the whole screen is black, not off, just black with the cursor in the middle. It happens even...

Your friend probably tried to replace 3 .dll files so that you can use custom themes for whatever OS is installed on the computer. The only way to fix this is to recover the computer and restore to factory settings.

When you boot the computer hit escape to access the boot menu. See if there is a recovery manager option, and in there, a restore to factory settings option. (Also, hitting F11 works). If you have no option like this (this is essentially booting without a disk) you'll need a copy of your system restore disks that came with the computer.

Hi trying to restore a compaq pc with the restore disk but it says this is not a compaq pc and won't let me do it? had a virus, friend reloaded windows with his cd because i was traveling and did not have...

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but your friends install has caused the computer to forget its origin. Try a restore using the internal drive.
  • Turn it off and restart it
  • Tap f10 repeatedly while it boots
  • Choose Factory Restore
If that doesn't work, you can call Compaq with the serial number and they might have a phone fix. Chances are they will want you to send it to them for a factory restore. (Think $$$)
  • The alternative is to live with your friends install and forgo the Compaq software.

If I referbish game and it still dont work!

Some games may have some slight scratches on the play-side of the discs that will simply not play in your games console or computer. Some home remedies to repair discs may help with only very light scratches on some discs but professional disc repair services is normally required to restore deeper scratches or disc laser burn damage back to "As Good As New Condition".

For further help on scratched Game Discs and/or Xbox laser burn disc repairs or to get scratched discs professionally repaired, visit:

www.discREPAIR.ie

You can send your discs off to this Disc Repair Service and the discs shall be sent back as good as new.

Windows Startup Problem??? Please Help!

This is work for a computer reparer with 'real' tools (e.g. an external DVD drive).

The only thing you could try yourself is removing the harddisk, placing it as a second harddisk in another computer and cleaning it with a program like Malware Bytes Anti Malware.

I can't upload my webcam to my computer

What type of webcam is it? It sounds like you might need drivers? I may be misunderstanding your question. Let me know the make and model of your webcam and I will try to find the drivers to see if that will fix it.

Scraches

You need to reformat player with correct dirvers. This procedure has been discussed on this site. If it is certain songs you can fix them on my computer by calling up player and files and deleting using the left mouse key.
