Possibly it is detecting there is not enough memory on the card. Put a bigger or blank card in then try. Check also the Manual Check the makers Tech Support on the website

I have a Sony DSC-W50 Cybershot camera that won't take pictures or videos anymore. It powers up fine and the screen works, but when I hold down the shutter button all the way, it focuses and nothing more.

No matter what picture setting is selected the camera, Sony DSC-W50, it will only take video. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks

I think mode selector dial is not working in your DSC-W50 that is why camera is set on video mode.
Replace mode selector dial as mentioned in below image, part number is...

1-479-584-11 CONTROL SW BLOCK (SW110T) (for SILVER color)
1-479-584-21 CONTROL SW BLOCK (SW120TB) (for BLACK color)

Available in Part Store.
Thanks.

Timer on the dsc-w50

Press cursor-down on the multiselector (marked with a one-handed clock) to cycle through the different self-timer modes. Start the self-timer by pressing the shutter release button.

Camera records regardless of mode setting.

Possible stuck button on the camera.
That may be due to some kind of juice, or drink or some such thing getting into the button area.
It may also be due to the fact that the trigger button is not releasing quickly enough.
This will need repairs, and may be more than what you want to spend. For that reason selling it as is or for parts on a site such as Ebay may be your best out.

Cybershot dsc-w50 records movies instead of pictures

I had the same problem with my camera.  I found that changing the mode from Multi Burst to Normal allows the camera to take normal pictures.  Go to Menu and scroll over to Mode, then select Normal.

Dime

Hmmm, for recording videos you just have to go to the movie mode and press the button
Photographies doesn't seem proper because of all the black dots on the LCD screen, once on the computer, they're good.
And maybe you can't record videos cuz you don't have a memory stick and you're trying to record on 640 MP fine quality. For that you have to get more than 128 mb on your memory stick.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W50 issues

hi there
you can try doing this and it should work and solve the problem for you

  1. Press Menu button
  2. togle across from REC Mode to setup
  3. togle down three times from camera to setup 1
  4. togle across into sub menu
  5. togle down from four times to Initialize
  6. togle across again to the sub-menu
  7. togle up from cancel to OK
  8. press center button to accept the OK choice
  9. Screen changes and so press okay again
  10. It should restart the camera
  11. Opening on the 'Clock Set' screen
  12. togle down to cancel and use the camera and make sure that you have the camera to flash, if it works try again in the Auto function.
  13. If it is still not working do not worry follow the steps again two or three more times, As this is generally a software error message and not a hardware malfunction.

Sony dsc-H1 won't switch off of movie mode

When you switch the camera from mode to mode, does it make the click noise to signify that the camera recognized that it changed modes? If not it could be that the switch itself has become unlogged from the switch. I know I had a older camera had this happen before. Try pushing down hard on the toggle wheel and seeing if it will snap back into place. Otherwise the switch inside the camera itself is probably broken, and if this is the case cheapest thing you can do is have Sony do warranty work on the camera. http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SYCustomerCare?storeId=10151&catalogId=10551&langId=-1 Click repair and service under Technical Support. This will get the process started on the warranty work.
