To get the digital you have to have the digital optical line or the coax rca jack digital audio connection from device to stereo reciever to get the dolby digital surround sound to work , otherwise you can only get a virtual surround sound from the reciever( no dolby digital )

We received the vsx d509s from our son, he hooked it up, and we were enjoying our surround sound in connection with our tv. However, when I hooked up the cd player, all the speakers worked fine, but now...

It is possible that you have switched it from a surround mode to stereo mode. Instructions on how to select a sound mode begin on page 36 of the manual, which can be viewed at the link below.

Hooking up optical input output

What kind ot TV?

Not sure what you mean by all signals.

Think about this: if your TV had any AUDIO capabilities that were superior to your REAL audio components, why would you need them?

The TV is the end of the line. Wouldn't it make more sense to get your TV-related audio as close to the source as possible? Your BD, DVD, cable and satellite all have high end audio outputs just begging for a place in the Pioneer.

Pioneer VSX 818V No Sound

First thing to check is the Speaker Select Switch. It will say, "A" "AB" or "Both" it will be displayed on the LCD screen as well. Second if that's ok, Check the "Direct" switch. If it's on, turn it off. Generally if it's on, you will see a blue light if it's on (most receiver's)

If you still have No audio, hook up your DVD to the "Direct" input and turn "Direct" on. If you have audio then. The DSP chip is probably bad and you should take it to a shop and have them bench it first to confirm. Hope this helps

Pioneer vsx-519 no sound from center and surround

Make sure that the sound field/programme you have selected is dolby digital not stereo.(On the amp)
You also need to check on the display that is says DIGITAL not ANOLOUGE, as only a digital input, Optical fibre cable, HDMI, COAX will be a digital signal.
If you are using red and white rca connectors, it is not going to work, as this is an Anolouge signal.

Pioneer VSX-815 speaker wiring

You can hook them up either way, the banana jacks are good for hooking two speakers to one terminal (ie one through the botton, one banana) but the electrical connection is the same either way. Sometimes the banana capable jacks are on speakers A and speakers B, and the surround don't accept banana plugs, your stuck with how your reciever is wired.
