We just had this problem, the dishwasher filling, then humming with a slight burning smell. It would drain ok if turned off then on again. It was the capacitor. The part cost $27 and the repairer charged $73 to fit it.

Sounds like an inverter transformer humming, not producing enough current to display a bright picture. Check the caps in power supply, next to the plug where it says 24v and goes to the inverter board on the left side of tv. Or check for bad connections on inverter transformers on inverter board, Thanks

Seal deal w/ ours. I took it apart and the power supply board had the burn marks on it. Just ordered another power supply board (pn: 272217100571) for ~ $100. TV back panel comes off fairly easily to get at boards.

I found the ballast HV wire going to lamp was burning on this one. For the loud hum it could be the color wheel.

The faint light indicates that there is not enough power being provided to the other circuitry as well the humming sound is a good indication that the power supply needs ot be replaced or repair. If your TV is less then a year old, still under manufacturers warranty.

Seriously, the main power supply has failed, and requires service. You are probably well past the warranty period, but check with the TV's service center - that information should be in the documents that came with the TV.

check of fluid leak from the tubes, check to see where the burning smell is comming from. could be anode, hv wire, splitter, surge caps in h-circuit, but it sounds like a high voltage transformer.
what is your model number of your tv?

heard a pop sound -- then the set went dead -- no lights, no nothing, and then there was a slight electrical burn smell coming from the back of the set :(

the tv needs a tech to repair your tv it could be anything in the power supply that have burnt good luck.
