Arrow buttons on Sony DVD remote RMT-D224A don't work

When playing a DVD that asks for you to select a portion of the DVD to play, the arrow buttons on the DVD remote do not work. It won't turn the DVD player on or off either. Batteries are new.

SOURCE: Sony Remote Control RMTD152A

If there is a stuck button (or buttons) on the remote it may behave weirdly, also in such a way that you described.

If this is the case, you just need to disassemble the remote and clean all the parts well with some ethyl alcohol.

All the parts means the rubber pad with buttons, circuit board with contact tabs and the housing.

When you clean the housing, be sure to clean all of the holes for the buttons, this is where the dirt accumulates and makes buttons stick - it keeps them pressed so the remote gets weird as you press other buttons.

If it's not that, then it may be damaged contacts, faulty solder points (battery tabs, capacitors, quartz, LED) or something else.

SOURCE: I have a Sony remote, RMT-D243A, that doesn't work.

With batteries in, hold the Enter button and the 1 button at the same time for more than 3 seconds. This should solve it. It essentially sets your remote into the proper command code.

SOURCE: cannot unlock sony RMT-D197A dvd player so that it

That, as the name clearly says, it's an remote number - ReMoTe . We need the actual model number of the player (on a sticker at the back of the player) and, if possible, the firmware version - it will be in the menu.
But i must warn you - any procedure you apply to the player will only make it region free (if possible), it will not make it play PAL encoded movies. That can be done only by changing / upgrading the firmware and a lot of models are region specific: they were designed to work on a specific region so no PAL support was ever in their firmwares.

Much better to get one of those set-top boxes, connecting it to a spare scart socket on the back of your recorder. This way you can watch a different channel on the TV and still record the TV show you want to watch.

Hi, My Samsung DVD player remote would not respond when power button pushed on. When DVD power turned on Manually and DVD loaded the remote would not respond to the play, arrow buttons eirther?? My LG...

If the buttons on the case are working but the buttons on the remote don't then it's clearly a fault with the remote.
Each button in the remote is made out of 2 wires on the electronics board that are joined by a small patch of conductive paint situated on the rear of the rubber button. If something gets in there, like water or dirt or the patch flakes out, the contact is no longer made and the button no longer works. The remote will have to be dismantled by popping the clips on the periphery with a sharp tool, the rubber strip holding the buttons will have to be washed and the board wiped clean. If the buttons still don't work after that then the remote is dead, you will have to get another one.

Purchased the DP300 at the Goodwill. The DVD has the remote control;however, I do not know how to use the remote control. I used the red, yellow, and white connector to my the DVD player and to the TV but...

with regard to using the remote control :

Make sure the batteries in the remote are working (they go in the back of the remote at the bottom).

Turn on the DVD player with the power button on the DP300 itself (lower left). Open the dvd tray either with the remote (press open/close button, upper right) or with the button on the DP300. Put a DVD in the tray and close it with the remote or the button on the DP300. The DVD should load.

Use the arrow buttons in the centre of the remote to select choices from the onscreen menu of the DVD. Press Play (centre of the 4 arrow buttons) to activate the choice you want. For example, if you want to play a movie, use the arrow buttons to go up or down until "play movie" is selected, then hit PLAY, and movie will play. If you want to choose a scene/chapter of the movie, use arrow buttons to go up or down until Scene Selection or Chapter is selected (highlighted), and press PLAY. This should bring up a list of the scenes or chapters. Use the arrow buttons to select the one you want, then hit PLAY, and that scene should play.

If the DVD tray is taking less than 20 seconds to operate, there is likely no problem. If it is taking more, there may be. I think the mechanism that opens and closes the tray is often the first thing to stop working on DVD and CD players.
