We have a Whirlpool Ultimate Care II washer. It's about six years old. Recently, as it finishes up the spin cycle, it makes this loud, shaky noise that sounds like it is about to either take-off or explode. It almost sounds like it the load inside is out of balance, but upon checking it's not. I've used a level to ensure that it is sitting flat. If I had to guess, I would say that the clutch is slipping but I don't know for sure which lead me to this cool website.
Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks, Pace

Hello, have to tell you that most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping noise during the spin, the load of cloth may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the cloths, then restart the machine. Repeat these steps if necessary.
It sound like the basket is out of balance. When it spins open the lid and see if the basket is moving side to side and back to back. If so look under the deck and see if there is springs or rubber ties attached to the basket.
check the lid switch operation, not sure what the noise could be maybe somthing stuck in the pump? hope ths helps unless the contacts in the timer are faulty i have opened up a few timers and fixed the contacts short term.
