I have recently purchased a t690 in which the dvd drive has vanished from the list of drives. The list now skips the E: drive and lists the card drives. I have tried deleting the driver from the hardware manager and rebooting but it always comes back with the yellow "!" mark
Is this an ide drive? have you look for the jumper, single drive on one ide have no problem, but for two drives, one must be slave and the other a master. configuring your ide connections may fixed the problem.

A friend of mine had that problem. She contacted Acer and said she did not have a chance to make a backup disk and she needs to re-install the operating system. Within a few days Acer sent her the backup disks.
Just call Acer and ask for it, like she did. If that should not work for you, come back and someone will walk you through to put a copy of your drive on a cd. Hope things work out for you!
Go into DEVICE MANAGER and check both the hard drive and DVD. Sounds like you have a hardware conflict, that is both are competing for the same territory (IRQ). You should be able to change this setting manually in there.
Do you check the setting of your hard drive? It seems that you have already another hard drive (HD) install which is working already were your operating system install. Try to put the 2nd HD setting in slave position. Follow instruction that is written at the back of HD. Your computer should read the 2nd HD as slave and will see it as drive: F or G and so on.
go to start, control panel, system, hardware, device manager, then click the drive thats doing tis under disk drives or cd dvd, repair the drive, if that doesnt work uninstall it then reinstall it, or reinstall it from the last point it worked. let me know
