Garage door won't open or close

The other night we came in the garage and when we pushed the button to close it, we heard 2 clicks and now it won't open or close. The motor hums but won't do anything. What needs to be done?

It's weird that the motor hums but the door won't open or close. Mine doesn't make any noises at all, and I worry that it might be a problem with the remote. I think I'm going to find a garage door service that can do repairs to see if they can find out what the problem is. Maybe you should do the same. http://www.blaxlandhomeservices.com.au

Is trolley jammed against stop bolt. take out to release tension on chain. may be bad circuit board. how old is unit.

I think the adjustment mode is on.

My Liftmaster garage door won't open or close. I hit the button and it make a sound and clicks but won't close

Remove the cover and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor. It will be obvious if it is bad. Tell me - if it won't open how do you know it won't close?

If when closing the door it reverses to the open position and the main light flashes 10 times it is a door sensor problem. Make sure the small light on each sensor is on and not flickering ever so slightly. (check closely) Tweak them a little even though they may seem to be okay. Check for 5vdc between terminals 2 and 3 on the rear of the motor unit. If there is no voltage or if it is greater than 6vdc the logic board is bad.

If the main light flashes 10 times when you try to close the door it is a sensor problem. Make sure they are not flickering ever so slightly and that they are not loose on their brackets. Tweak them a little bit.

Check the door sensors. They must be pointed at one another and the small light on each one must be lit and not flickering. Tweak them a bit. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have either a bad sensor or the wiring to them is shorted or broken.

Check your door sensors. The need to be pointed at one another and make sure the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. Tweak them a bit. If you can't get both lights to come on one of your sensors has failed.

Garage Door opened but will not close. I opened

I think the trolley has jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. Remove the bolt and then run the door until it is closed. With the door closed locate the 'up limit' control on the side of the motor unit. Turn this 2 turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Replace the bolt.

You have a door sensor problem. Make sure the sensors are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not blinking. Also check the wiring.
