My keyboard is totally unresponsive on my Compaq Presario S6500NX PC Desktop. The mouse responds sometimes and then stops working also.
The major problem is that once it boots up and the Windows XP login screen shows, I can't enter my password... so my computer as it is now is useless until I can identify the problem.
I've been looking online for troubleshooting information, and it seems that resetting the CMOS is appropriate? I don't know how to do this, and of course I no longer have the motherboard manual... any suggestions-- please help!?!?!?!
Usb keyboard if new, needs to be installed first by windows but this is automatic and only needs a short time, just wait. But if your computer does not recognize it, usb support for keyboard should be enabled in the BIOS. restart your computer and press delete for cmos setup, if you can't see a setup form, maybe it is not delete to be press, try F1 or F2 until you can see the screen with the options to change CMOS setup.

It sounds like the motherboard is messed up. if it ever lets you enter windows fully, then do a bios update and driver download for you chipset. if it NEVER lets you enter, take it to someone who can hook it up to their machine to see if it's the motherboard or an incompatibe device.
Make sure that the keyboard and mouse wires are plugged in the appropriate ports, if it still won't work, try switching keyboard and mouse. If it still will not work I would call the factory and try to have it shipped back because it could be blown ports.
