I have troubleshot this thing to the best of my ability, but cannot figure out what's wrong at this point. After turning the TV on, it stays on for a short period of time before the screen goes black. It will stay this way for a few minutes, then come back for a few seconds before going black again.
The lamp light does not come on, but the standby light will flash continuously. I have checked all the connections, have it plugged into the wall socket, and even placed a fan behind it to see if cooling could be an issue. Still no luck.
Any assistance would be appreciated, and if I need to replace a part, how to go about it.
I had the same problem. After spending many hours online reading forum posts, cleaning the bulb, reseating the bulb, and several other things. I bit the bullet and bought a bulb, everything was fixed when the bulb was replaced.

A very common problem with this TV model. You have a bad signal module or a bad small signal board. Leave your TV unplugged for a few days or a week. Then plug this TV and power on. If the TV comes on and plays well for a few seconds and goes out, the SSB needs replaced. The second thing would be to pull the back cover off. If TV is already on,you can see the rear filaments on the TV tubes lit. Still no picture..then your the signal module is bad and the Convergence ICs and resistors will need replaced. This is a good starting point. Definitely one of these two problems.
Your original problem was/is an "opto" IC (chip),which causes the power supply to regulate low when it fails. It is a 6 or 8 pin chip. Sounds as if maybe more has failed now. Switch mode power supplies are not for the faint of heart,or DIY. I recommend having it troubleshot by a tech.
Make sure the system is turned off before inserting the cartridges.
Things you can try to get the V.Smile TV Learning System to work: 1)Press the Reset – Press and hold the ON button for about 10 seconds 2)Make sure the game is inserted far enough into the system, and that it is pointing in the right direction. You may occasionally need to clean the contacts. 3)Also, make sure you are using the supplied power cord/adapter, not batteries.Batteries cause more problems than they’re worth.

It can be a couple things. Something bad on the power board. Or the vertical output circuit. How long ago did you purchase the television. Your best course of action is to have it serviced. If you need any information or other assistance let me know. Thanks, Lee
usually if the tube has gone you will get no sound and all you will get is the telly on standby so the best thing to do is take it to repair shop and they should tell you for free what is wrong but usuall it costs more to repair than it does to buy another one sorry i couldnt be any more help
I've tried many different things to isolate the problem, the only solution is to manually reset it to factory settings via menu button. If something goes wrong, like the menu button freezes turn off the monitor *Or unplug it, and retry to reset factory settings. Unfortunately you have to do this almost every single time you turn off/on the television.
