I recently had a similar problem during "Sandy". I forgot to turn off the hot tub before starting the generator and the house lightswhere barely lit, dim, and flickering under the load. I quickly shut itoff andthe hot tub, but not before frying half of my generator. It will only produce 110now, not the 220 usual adn I need to get it fixed. I imaging you may be experienceing the same thing if you can't reset it. My generator has two reset buttons right next to the outlets on the unit itself.

How do you run ac units with generator

You have to be sure the generator produces not only enough power to run the AC but also to handle the load when the AC initially starts or the compressor kicks on. That means it either must have a continual wattage rating to handle the load or a surge rating that's powerful and long enough to handle the start up.

At 3600 rpms generator produces 133 volts AC

You cannot, speed is propertional to voltage on these, as they have capacitor voltage regulation. Do not use this for powering home appliances, it is common to see this design and not a problem. If you add load and it will decrease but so will the frequency

Honda eu3000is generator surges

Inverter Generator Benefits
  • The EU3000 series generators are inverter generators. The generator features an alternator, which produced high-voltage, multi-phase AC power. This power is converted to DC power and then converted back to AC. This process is controlled by a microprocessor and is necessary to provide stable, consistent power capable of running equipment sensitive to power surges. This type of generator provides higher fuel efficiency and lower operational noise ratings in a lighter model than home and work generators produced by Honda.

EU3000i Handi Specifications
  • The Honda EU3000i Handi is a 3,000-watt inverter generator that features wheels, folding handle and a recessed convenience light. The engine is a Honda GX160, which features a 163-cc displacement. The AC output is 120 volts, with an average rating of 2,600 watts and a maximum production of 3,000 watts. There are three receptacles to include a 20A, 125-volt duplex and a 30A, 125-volt locking plug. The DC output is 12 volts and 100 watts. The EU3000i can hold 1.56 gallons of unleaded fuel, which will provide consumers with 3.6 hours of run time at 25 percent load for 7.7 hours.

Generator runs fine- does not produce any power- checked breakers all ok

The voltage regulator for the generator is not work, replace it. Why, if there no dc voltage to excite the stator it won't any output. GB...stewbison

GENERATOR WILL RUN BUT DON'T PRODUCE ELECTRIC

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

Without a model number... I am guessing about what type / brand and MODEL of generator you have. I have to assume it is a Coleman Power mate.

Try flashing the field. Do this.. take and electric drill and plug into the outlets of the generator. Turn on the output power GENERATOR ON. Squeeze the drill trigger and rotate the chuck as fast as you can. This will induce voltage into the stator and they usually will start producing power. When it does produce power it will try to yank the drill chuck head out of your hand so keep that in mind.

If the above does not work...
Remove the small cover from the center of the endbell. It covers the end of the rotor shaft and has 2 brushes under the cover.
INSPECT the brushes visually (do not remove them yet)
(Generator OFF!)
Use a meter to read resistance by probing the electrical contacts of the brushes. You MUST read LOW resistance. This is the rotor winding.
No resistance or high resistance
Remove the brushes inspect for damage. Try to probe the slip rings of the rotor. (You might have to make a 14/2 Romex electiral wire extension to get some solid copper wires to touch the rotor slip rings) Again you must read LOW reistance.

If you have low resistance and the brushes are good.....
Reinstall the brushes. (TEST for AC) Start generator
STILL NO OUTPUT?!!!!
Use a meter on DC to read AVR voltage output to the brushes by probing the brush terminals. You should read 3 - 7 VDC. No voltage.... hmmmm Possibly an AVR problem but...

Try this.
Rig up a 9 Volt battery that you TAPE the wires to the battery terminals and the case of the battery
Just loosely connect the 2 wires to the brushes. Wrap the battery with a rag it might explode if you don't remove it fast enough. Your going to yank this off as soon as it produces power QUICKLY.

Plug in a light or a small fan so you can see that power is being produced. Let it run a few minutes before shutting it down.

To do anything else I need to know your generator model number to do winding and voltage regulator checks.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

I'm dumb. Can I hook an inverater to my generator and produce more enegry than my generator produces???

Please understand that the generator produces power from fuel with an engine wheras the invertor is one which genrerates power from a stored battery using the principle of frequency switching a DC source to induct and produce AC.
Now you can have an uninterupted power supply setting with the invertor backed up by the generator so that when the battery voltage goes down you can start and charge the invertor and also supply the extra energy .
the ratings of both must also be considered.

How do i get power from my generator, gnerators on but i cant use outlets or ac micro nothing only lights work

The maximum power produced by your generator is in its rating. It can be produced if you keep the frequency by adding more fuel to the engine.
If the fuel is insufficient, no matter why - the frequency (rpm) will drop down and the motor may even stop.

I have a coleman 5000 that won't hold voltage at 110 volts under load. It fluctuates up and down. The motor is running steady. What could be the cause of this?

govenor problem maybe does the engine sound slower when a load is on.
you will need something to read the power frequency

3000 rpm produces 50hz uk
3600 rpm produces 60hz

so if you have a meter to measure frequency you will also know what speed the engine is running at
