My Dell A940 is barely printing black (full cartridge) and messed up colors (no blue). Can't figure it out. Have replaced the cartridges. Tried printing the test pages but they are not coming out right.

SOURCE: My Dell A940 is not printing with black ink.

how long have the cartridges sat? I've noticed after about a week, that dell ink clogs up. Also, Lexmark makes most Dell printers. In my time as a cartridge refiller, we blow through dells and lexmarks and when they **** out, usually it acts like it prints, but nothing comes out printed, only blank pages

Dell A940 prints black but doesn't print in color. I installed a new color cartrige and the 50c error went away, but still doesn't print in color...

Hi there Error 50c
This is for yours.
Regarding the Dell A940 "Error 50c"....the user guide doesn't seem to mention "Error 50c". They do, however, mention a "Cartridge Error" on page 52 of the manual. They claim this means that the printer has detected a short circuit (fuse/resister) in the cartridge. As you may or may not have noticed in the manual, this is what they recommend doing about it:

1) Press Power to turn the printer off.

2) Lift the printer cover/lid (scanner unit) until the scanner support holds it open.

3) Turn the printer on.
The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless the printer is busy.

4) Remove the color ink cartridge.

5) Lower the printer (scanner unit) until it is completely closed.
If the error message displays again, replace the black cartridge with a new black cartridge.

If the error message does not display, repeat steps 1–3 and then go to step 6.

6) Reinstall the color cartridge and remove the black ink cartridge.

7) Lower the printer (scanner unit) until it is completely closed.

If the error message displays again, replace the color cartridge with a new
color cartridge.
If there is no error message (indicated by flashing lights), repeat steps 1–3 and then reinstall both ink cartridges.
8) Lower the printer (scanner unit) until it is completely closed.

If you get the error message again, while both cartridges are installed, replace both of the cartridges.

Basically, what they want you to determine is,....if the short circuit is with the "black ink" cartridge or the "color ink" cartridge and then replace the cartridge that has the problem.

You may have to buy a new cartrige.
Please all I ask is call back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one, so I will keep on helping.

Dell A940 and A960 printers will not print in black ink, just purchased ink cartridges from Office Max, have deleted all info from computer of previous A940 and A960 printers, reinstalled program via disc....

I had the exact same problem with a replacement black cartridge directly from DELL. I called support, and they just had me clean the cartridge manually by swiping the print strip, then running the standard cleaning commands in the computer. I had to do that a couple times, but eventually the black ink started working again. VERY ODD. I hated dealing with it, but these steps worked to fix it eventually. Hope that helps.

Dell A940....remanufatured ink cartrideges

Hi There,
I refuse to pay Dell prices for ink and have used branded Lexmark cartridges for aroud 5 years in my A940 with absolutely no problems (with a very simple modification - see below!).
The Dell A940 can use Lexmark type 82(black) and type 83(colour) which are marketed for the Lexmark X5100, X6100, Z55 and Z65 series of printers.
NOTE: the cartridges have a slightly different shape 'key' on the top. The cartridge retaining clips in the printer each have a plastic pin near the back on the left side, which locates on a Dell cart but not a Lexmark one. Simply lift the retaining clip right up, and cut the pin short with wire cutters. They have no other function, and you will then be able to use either brand of cartridge in your printer completely hassle free.

I hope this helps!

Dell A940 Color Ink Problem

Do check the option and make sure that you have not inadvertently set it to black only- This could be computer wise or on the A940 panel. If you are sure all is well here Remove the scanner software and reinstall. Email Dell to See what they have to say
