Olympus xD-Picture Card "Card Error"

Experiencing problems with my Olympus xD-Picture Card, its a 512MB. My camera Olympus 700 7.1 megapixel is randomly displaying "card error" and when I try to import the pictures onto my pc there are usually thumbnails displayed but there is no image just a symbol of a cracked picture and a message says that these pictures cannot be imported. I have an Olympus Camedia C-740 Ulta Zoom with a 3.2 megapixel, 10x optical zoom. I purchased a new oylmpus M2gb XD-picture card. When I insert the card it says "card setup", "format" and it comes up "card error".What do I do? Thank you

First things first - need to make sure that the card is making proper electrical contact with the camera. Have a look at the contacts at the edge of the card and make sure they are spotlessly clean - even a fingerprint may cause problems.

Also, make sure the contacts in the camera have nothing causing a contact problem, and see if this resolves the issue.

Regards, Andy

How do i get my Olympus D560 to use an xD M+ memory card? I keep getting card error message.

Hi,

The Olympus compatibility chart on their website says that your camera works with type M and M+ sizes 256MB - 512MB.
The chart also says 256MB - 512MB for type H and 16MB - 512MB for standard xD cards.
It looks like the largest size xD you can use of any type is 512MB.
The D560 is quite an early digital camera and it is not unusual to have card size limitations.

After taking about 15-20 pictures our camera shows card error message. We download the pics onto our computer and reformat as the camera says to do...but should the camera hold more pictures than that?

Hello,

It sounds like the card is damaged, it should take a lot more photos than that.

The C-50 takes an XD memory card. These are different sizes. For example a 256mb size will take hundreds of photographs.

The C-50 is quite old and there are now different types of XD cards. It might be best to get a 128mb XD card.

The Olympus website says:
---
Please contact Olympus authorized distributor or service center in your region for the information about
using xD-Picture Card 512MB, 1GB or 2GB
---
I hope this helps.

Problem with olympus digital camera d-395

The problem is that the largest xD card that your camera can support is a 512mb card without the letter M or H in front of the 2gb. The 1gb or 2gb cards are not compatible. The firmware in the camera cannot support memory storage with that capacity. The camera came out before those cards did and there are no plans to upgrade the camera to allow those types of cards to be supported.
