To ALL users of the RCA/Thomson DCR8335 VCR/DVD combo player/recorder.

NOTE: This unit is problematic and most likely, that is why is has been discontinued. I've have all the problems listed at this site and www.consumeraffiars.com. I would advise to stay away from RCA/Thomson and Audiovox (as I read online that Audiovox bought out RCA Audio/dvd products). They won't even honor the written warranty to repair the unit at a local RCA authorized facility. They are stating that repair parts are no longer available, and the only recourse they are offering is to exchange the unit with another problematic DCR8335 which is not accecptable in my opinion. They also want you to pay for the return shipping which is not cheap. If you push them to talk to a manager and refuse to pay the return S&H, they offer to give you a prepaid shipping label to pay for the return shipping. I refused to take the same unit as a replacement as I read online testimonials of others who did and encountered the same issues. We need to complain and have them offer a monetary refund so that we can purchase a comparable replacement unit of our choice after researching the product so we don't end up in a similar scenario.

Wishing you all the best with your resolutions pursuits...

Have a great day!!! :)

We have a 23" Toshiba with a internal DVD player.

No,tv internal DVD player are not on sale by itself as a seperate unit, only can buy it from the tv corporations themselves and it not cheap and have to have experience to putting it in into the tv internal tv itself. The tv internal DVD player now, could be the laser eye data reader have problems reading mp3 and mp4 files on the DVD disc, which are video files. Now tries to play more than one DVD movies dic, tries like to play like 5 to 6 original DVD movies. One disc don't play tries another DVD disc.Tries this might forcing the laser eye reader to read DVD dics again and than might fix it to read video files again.Or just buy an external DVD player hook it up to the tv and play DVD disc on to the tv video modes.DVD players external devices are really cheap these day, like can buy new one for $40.

Program says dvd+r incompatible with toshiba dvd player

Some DVD players will read 'DVD-R' ("minus-R") disks.
Some DVD players will read 'DVD+R' ("minus+R") disks.
Some DVD players will read "both" types of disks.

So, if you're burning onto a DVD+R disk, you won't be able to "play" the disk on your Toshiba DVD-player.

Instead, buy "blank" DVD-R disks, and write on them.

DR-MV100B will not read disc

It could be a dirty laser. Try running one of those laser cleaning disks through it. That might help

DVD DRC630N

Hey, this looks familar. Here's the same answer (first)....

Sometimes this is a dirty surface on the Disk. Watching it with a soft cloth and non-abrasive 'gentle' dish soap can help. At least, that's what Netflix tells me to do with them.

If it's happening on EVERY disk, and all you're playing are commercial, new, pre-recorded DVDs, then there's more things to try. Some links from reputable sources:

http://www.techlore.com/article/10478/

http://www.ehow.com/how_2036277_fix-error-dvd.html

After all that fails, it's probably time to change the DVD drive inside the player. Sometimes this is easy, sometimes not. :) with the DRC 630N, this would be more in the 'not' arena. :)

Of course, if you have a valid warranty, then when you're left with no solutions that don't void the warranty, you have to decide whether to try to pass it off to the warranty holder for repairs.

But, with more information....can you still play the games that this unit comes with? Assuming so, then the problem is probably one of alignment of the read sensor. This is generally a repairman fix.

Check disc

Is the surface or your disk smudged or damaged? If not, try a lens cleaner CD or kit and see if the problem goes away. If they are DVD Rs or something similar(DVD-RAM, DVD+R, ETC) the player may not be able to play that particular format, and you should double check the instruction manual to see what types of disks can be read.
