Maytag Atlantis MDG7400AW Gas Dryer not drying clothes

Gas dryer is not heating up when there are wet clothes in it. But if you put dry clothes inside it they heat up on a normaly and the same if there are no clothes in it. Whats the proublum?

When empty/ or dry clothes hetas up works great put in wet sock it doesn't heat up!!!

Our gas dryer does not heat up in any of the three cycle areas.

This was tested with wet clothes inside.

The burner will go on occasionally for a few seconds but turns off within 10 seconds or so and does not come back on.

Something is turning it off - all other functions of the dryer are working ok. The vent system has been totally cleaned out.

Sometimes no heat is generated clothes still wet & cold. Other times mild heat still not drying clothers.

This problem doesn't sound right, but you could have a bad moisture sensor.

My dryers timer wouldn't work correctly and the clothes were taking forever to dry. I decided to check the vent. My advice....Always check your dryer vent before spending any money on unnecessary parts or service calls. This Nest was pulled out of my vent with my shop vac sucking out and my house vac blowing out from inside. It finally broke free and now my dryer works like new.

The Atlantis Gas Dryer comes on, heats the clothes, but will not tumble the clothes so that only the outside of the clothes are dry.

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

Our dryer takes a long time to dry clothes. If the airvent that goes outside of the ouse is clogged...would that affect the dryer? Stupid question i know, but we have like 5 feet of snow outside, so it's...

Yes this would affect try time as your dryer is not able to move the moist air out of the dryer. That is probably your problem. The other issue would be gas coils if it heats at the beginning of the cycle and stops heating towards the end.

White clothes have black streaks after drying.

You will have to have the dryer drum felts replaced. It requires removing the drum from the dryer so you may want to have a technician do this because removing the belt can be tricky.

Maytag Atlantis MDG8400AWW Dryer Runs Cool

I had a similar problem years back. It was the ignitor. The ignitor is a ceramic like piece that heats up (glows red) that ignites the gas. Typically when that goes, you will see some white residue build up where it cracked, thus breaking the electrical connection. This thing works like a heating element on an electric stove, but rougher looking.

The part was about $30 at my local parts store. I bought an extra one just in case so I have it on hand. I installed it with common tools.

You can check it to see if you lost connection by using a volt meter.

I have a Maytag Atlantis Gas Dryer that will turn on, rotate, but will not get hot and dry the clothes. A load of clothes in the afternoon, didn’t dry, tried again but didn’t dry – went to bed after putting on auto dry - next morning the dryer was still rotating and didn’t turn off. No hot air – only cold air.
