Is the paper feeding from the manual tray or tray 2. If you are printing from tray 2 and have this problem then it is likely that your driver or software is looking for different paper types than you have loaded in the printer. For example, if you have plain paper in tray 2 and your software wants to print on letterhead, then the printer will stop after each page and by pressing the button you are telling the printer that it is ok to print on different paper. If you have the paper in the manual feed tray (tray 1) then I would check to make sure you are telling the pirnter to print to tray 1 and not manual feed when you send a print job.
It seems that " Print on both sides (Manually)" is selected in printing options.,
when you want to print any document
Go to file Print > select printer and click properties and disable the Manual printing option in device settings.
You should be able to get printing without errors,
if the option is not checked then check for the default paper tray,
save the settings and reboot your laptop/desktop and restart printer as well so that settings should work properly and any given command gets clear from memory,
If these all settings are ok, Uninstall the printer driver and download the latest version drivers from HP website and install see links below

Controlling print jobs: (condensed version) MS Windows
Three settings affect how the printer driver tries to pull paper when you send a print job. The "Source," "Type," and "Size" settings appear in the Page Setup, Print, or Print Properties dialog boxes in most software programs.
Your question indicates that you wish to configure your printer to take from the top tray. That is a "Source" setting. So in the print Setup or Print Properties dialog box, change the "Source" to Tray 1.
Printing by Source means you choose a specific tray from which you want the printer to pull paper. The printer tries to print from this tray, no matter what type or size is loaded in it. If you choose a tray that is configured from the embedded Web server for a type or size that does not match your print job, the printer does not print automatically. Instead, it waits for you to load the tray you chose with the type or size of print media for your print job. If you load the tray, the printer begins printing. If you press the printer tries to print from another tray that has the correct type or size.

if you using office go to page setup and select the tray(s) that you want to use for the first page and other pages ( both must be the same ) unless you only want the first page as letter head and the rest on plain paper or something along those lines ?
Also if you go into the properties of the printer and go to advanced and then click on the printing defaults button and see if the options in there are the same or different to whats in printing preferences.
If they are set to tray 1 then it will default to tray 1
1. Clear the print queue, and if there are jobs that won't delete, reboot the computer.
2. Now clear the jobs on the printer (cancel job button) until the status light turns green.
3. Put a piece of paper in the manual feed tray on the front.
4. Print a test page.
If the test page prints to the paper in the manual feed tray, then it is set as the default tray. Go into the printer settings and change it to "auto" or tray 1. If the test page prints to tray 1, but the original document you tried to print (when it got stuck) still won't print, cancel the job. Now, again, put paper in the manual feed tray. Try to print the document again and if it pulls from there, go into page setup of your document and change the setting from "manual" to "auto" or tray 1. Clear the job again (if it's stuck) and you should be able to print again. Hope this helps. This is one of the most common solutions - it happens a lot, especially with documents that are emailed from other people and once they get stuck in the queue, nothing will print (except the test pages directly from the printer, like you describe).
