Question about Televison & Video
Model is 42PFP5532D. i plug the power in i get red light, press the standby button turns blue as if its on but still blank screen. how much would it cost to get fixed?

Just let me know if their is a sound when you turn on the tv then the only problem is black screen. if you can get sound tried to press the channel up/down button let see if you can get a channel. if you hear that receive channel that was mean the problem is either the screen back light get busted or the power inverter is defective. hope this can help good luck.

i tired going through the sources blindly no joy unable to get sound. can the power inverter be fixed if defected? thank you
yes it can be repaired but it will depend on the parts availability in the electronic store or through online. these are parts you are going to check weather the inverter board get bad. check if the high voltage transformer get shorted or get burned. then also if the transistor as will as ic their pins get shorted, you are going to have a component testing using with the digital or analog tester. however if you don't have an idea on how to check this parts, the better solution to check weather the inverter board get bad is to replaced the back light at least one side of the panel. since you can not get to check the inverter board only by checking the voltage because it has a high voltage output and can not test by a digital tester only.

There is a kit you can buy on ebay for 12.99 or you can buy the power supply board for 89.00 and fix it yourself. very easy

The power supply is in the protect mode. There are many things in the set that can cuase this. Most likely there is a short on one of the circuit boards, or the power supply itself has failed.
You will have to have the set serviced in order to get it going again.

replace 2 condensers in the power supply with greater voltage ones.original are 1000uf 35volt...use 1000uf 65volt...99cents each
power circuit is made to fail with typical tv industry tactics...the warranty is reflected by the life of their condensors (capacitors) average life is 2000 hours..
easy...huh
if your a smoker...you must clean the button cover as they get stuck on with your stupid tobacco residue. 75% of all LCD tv's that smokers own fail this way...

a professional. -These electronics go threw a self diagnostic when they start up, normally they turn off when they find a problem.

Plasma tvs do not have "back lights" LCDs do. you probably have a bad driver board along with the upper or lower buffer board or maybe both, best to have a tv shop look at it.

Polaroid's power supplies have been notorious in early models...suspect this is where your problem is. If you are out of warranty, the supply is usually located dead center in the back of the TV. Easy to get out, easy to put in...not sure of the money. Mine was a hundred bucks, but I bought it from a third party. Good luck.
