Laptop won't power up

Compac Presario V6000

My son was on the internet when the laptop just switched off. It now does not power up no lights nothing

    Thanks for the information found it very helpful. Laptop still not working looks like the mother board.

Check that the power adaptor or power plug are securely connected to the back of the computer and to the power outlet. If plugged to power strip, reset power strip (on and off) It maybe that he was running on battery alone ( if Laptop ) and that the ac adaptor wasnt
really powering the PC. If all is ok and if still no power try another outlet.

If there a battery, try to remove the battery and put the charger..try to check if the power come or not come.
second, if not come the power without battery..you must check first the charger output,working or not working..and third, check the power jack...thats the last...

The DC pin on your laptop is bent/broken/loose. Look at where your power adapter plugs in on your laptop. Get a paper clip, bend it out to make a long paper clip and slightly push its tip on the pin inside your laptop. If the pin moves chances are either the DC pin needs to be soldered down or needs to be replaced. The part is usually cheap around $10 but the labor can cost more than $50.

Compaq presario v6000 laptop when switched on blue lcd lights on only,can hear fan on but windows does'nt install and nothing on lcd screen what so ever. Every few minutes i hear a click noise and lcd...
It is the motherboard. The V6000, V2000 as well as the siblings in the HP line DV2000, DV6000, and DV9000 all have the same issue. In my opinion is from the oxidation of the motherboard contacts before the nVidia BallGridArray chips are hot air soldered to the board.

As the laptop heats and cools, these .014mm balls expand and contract. Where there is a poor solder pad, the solderball unsticks from the contact surface.

I have repaired 22+ in the month of October alone.

Unplug the power cable and pull out the battery.Wait 10 min and put the battery back again.If this not help your computer need service.

My Compaq v6000 notebook doesnt power on it just
You could be having a problem with your power source....(not the plugin) but the actual power unit inside of the laptop. Or could be dirty inside and sometimes they get touchy with a lot of dust build up. Try cleaning out the inside of the laptop be removing some panels on the bottom and the keyboard. Try using a can of air to blow the crud out.


You can also take it to a shop and have them test the power source.

Hey Boots_Calara,

In most of hp/compaq dv6000 series that i have worked on have bad ram , easiest way is taking out the ram and replace it. Or if you have a friend that has a hp or compaq laptop switch the ram and try boot it with there ram. Try it before you replace the bad ram.

Cannot get laptop back on
Try removing the battery and using just the power adapter, some laptops wont power on if the battery is bad.

Try hitting F1 as you start it and see if you can get into the bios and reset everything to defaults.

then restart it and see.
