SOURCE: keypad on microwave wont work

.
This may have already been dealt with, but others can benefit from an accurate, thoughtful reply to this problem.

Is it possible that some spray cleaner got into the controls?

I always recommend that users instead spray cleaner on a soft cloth then wipe the control panel.

Also, I always recommend non-ammonia cleaners since ammonia can crack and damage plastic.

Otherwise, the spray can get into the controls and lock it up or make it act odd.

If it does not dry out over time, it may need to be manually dried or blown out.

The keypad may be damaged or worn out, or control unit may be damaged.

SOURCE: Microwave Sharp carousel Model R3A36 keypad not working

Your keypad has failed.

It would need a new control panel frame, which comes with the keypad.

You simply remove the circuit board and plug it into the new frame.

It is part # FPNLCB070WRK0 and the best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics.

When power went off and then came back on, screen on micro wave continually shows demo and I cannot set time

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes and try again.

If it still won't work, then you may have a bad membrane keypad / DP circuit.

If your model is NN-P295SF, the service is here.

Parts can be ordered from Encompass here.

My GE microwave is beeping and the display says F3

F3 on a GE / Hotpoint microwave means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

We would need your model number to give you more specific info, part ordering info, and en estimate if needed.

Simply contact me here with your model number and symptoms for free help.

On some models, the membrane keypad is peeled off and a new one stuck on.

In other models, the plastic frame must be replaced, and it comes with a keypad already installed.

Key pad does not work

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes.

If it still fails, I would say your membrane keypad has failed.

It all depends on the full model number, but on some, the keypads can be replaced separately, and on other models, it only comes with a new control panel frame.

Replacing this as an assembly is actually a pretty easy do it yourself job.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Next, disconnect the keypad strip as shown in the photo below, then remove the screws that hold your circuit board in the old frame.

d1ea44c.jpg

Then carefully (since the display is made of glass) move your circuit board to the new frame, and reassembly is the reverse of disassembly.

You can get the control panel assembly here.

You can also find helpful exploded view diagrams at that link.

Just enter your full model number without any dashes.

If the keypad must be replaced on the existing frame, it's a much harder job. I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

We do that job for $39.95 pluspart cost and shipping.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more DIY help or a free estimate.
