Wirless connectivity problem

We have an Acer laptop Aspire 6930. The wireless connection was working fine. However when we turned it on today and tried to connect it said the the wireless capablity was turned off. It is a Vista software. When we try to go through the Control Panel to fix it, the screen to turn on wireless does not allow us to click on the option to connect. It shows in in grey. Is there a function key or switch that we may have accidently hit that would turn it back on?

What qualifies you people to write responses? The switch for the 6930 is located just above the NumLock key. It actually looks like an LED indicator of a satellite dish, but it's not. It's the button for the WiFi enable/disable. Push it hard...

There should be a button or slider on the inside right near the screen that will light up orange when you press/slide it. This button turns on and off the wifi capability.

If it's anything like my Aspire 5920, the button will have a picture of a planet similar to Saturn. The light may blink orange instead of a steady glow, this is normal. You may get a message on the screen saying "Wifi on" or similar.

Hope this helps.

Correction: The button with Saturn on it actually launches an internet browser. The Wifi button is a different symbol, most likely like this:

Wireless connection fails on acer E1-571

Wireless problems can have various causes. Do other devices in your network work fine (other notebooks, smartphones)? And have you tested your Acer in other networks, like in a friends house, etc? If your notebook fails anywhere you use it, it may have a faulty wireless adapter (altough that's very rare). I would try to remove and reinstall the wireless driver and if that don't solve it, reinstall the OS (you could also have a virus problem). If the notebook works fine in other places, it could be your wifi router. Try turning it off and on.

Another option, because your notebook's built-in wifi hardware is provided by Intel, is to head to https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html using the notebook, and install and run Intel's Driver And Support Assistant (Intel DSA) which should then advise you what Intel drivers are needed for your Aspire 6930.

Look for a WiFi button to ensure it isn't off. If it isn't, then go to the Control Panel and go to Device Manager (Hardware Manager in Vista) and make sure the device disabled. Right click it and choose Enable. Should pick up your wireless.

Aspire 6930 wireless button not working

Without any wireless networks available, using your computer wirelessly is most pointless. If you want to set up a wireless access point in your home you need a wireless router, connected to Internet.

Acer Aspire 6930 wireless on off switch

The wireless card has dropped the IP address, to get the wireless router to issue the wireless card with a new IP address, right click on the wireless connection (the one with the red X) and left click on Repair.
When the red X disappears then you can connect to the Internet.
