Question about HP LaserJet 2200D Printer

1 Answer

Does not printer lowercase letter "f"

I have an HP 2200d laser printer that does not print the lowercase letter "f" in MS word and Notepad. All the other letters print ok. I have downloaded the latest driver from the hp website. Does anyone have any ideas why it's not printing lowercase "f". Is this a hardware or software problem? I've notice that only certain fonts are affected by this problem. Weird?

Followed your instructions and found no cards installed, just found 2 empty slots on the formatter board. Where can I purchase these cards?

Found a 32mb HP LaserJet Memory card(C7845A) off ebay. Installed card into one of the slot and got 3 blinking LEDs, then reinstalled it in the other DIMM slot. Checked and rechecked to make sure that card was installed correctly, but still getting 3 blinking LEDs. The notches line up and the clips snap the card into place. It seems to be installed correctly but the printer does not like it. Don't know if it is a bad card or a bad formatter board. Will try to find a new DIMM card....(to be continued)

Removed the DIMM card and turned on printer. Got the green LED (ready), then initiated a self-test:

    Product Name: HP LaserJet 2200
    Formatter Number: ???
    Product Serial #:CNDRC42010
    Service ID: 11289
    Firmware Datecode: 20010104

Printer does not like the DIMM card and still does not print lowercase "f".

Finally, got a new DIMM card. Installed the card without any problems. This means that the previous card was defective.

Do you have another computer to connect this printer to in order to try and recreate this issue? It may help determine if the issue is the printer itself.

While I'm researching this issue, here's something to try. Be sure you have enough room around the printer before starting. If you have an anti-static wrist strap, I recommend wearing it.

If your printer has an optional font card, it may be the problem. If not, it may be corrected by simply reseating the ROM DIMM and any additional memory that may be installed.

Turn your printer off, then unplug it.

Facing the printer, you're going to remove the right-hand side cover. This is done by pressing the 2 plastic pins in the back, one on top and one below. This unlocks a little access door that swings forward.

Open the toner door. You'll see a small plastic button that locks on the right side panel. Push it down and push the right side panel forward, it stops after about 1/2". Swing it forward and remove it. You've now uncovered the formatter board.

Toward the front of the board you'll see one or more smaller cards that resemble small fat PC memory. One is the system ROM. Others may be additional memory and/or the font card (remember, you may not have one, this is just how we find out).

Pop out each card ONE AT A TIME by pressing the little white clips on top and bottom. DO NOT TOUCH THE METAL CONTACTS!! HANDLE IT ONLY BY THE EDGE! Pull the card out and reseat it, the which locking clips will clip to it automatically when you reinstall it, and it only installs one way.

Reinstall the side panels in reverse order. Plug in the printer and test.

As complicated as all that may sound, it takes around 2 minutes. Meanwhile, I'm still researching. If all of this doesn't work, please tell me how many cards were installed, and the printer's serial number.

I am using Dell 3100cn Laser Printer and I can not print using MS word, but I can Print with Notepad...

Be sure when you print under MS word that you have the correct printer selected in the drop down menu. There will be a menu with a choice between something like "Microsoft Image Writer" and your actual printer, ensure the actual printer is selected.

The Laser Scanners go out in the 2200/2300. Based on the noise you describe, high pitched screech, the laser scanner needs replacing. However, if you push the large go button, you will get a secondary light code that will tell you specifically the problem and then go google the secondary error light pattern for 2200's.. Good luck

HP2200D printer missing disc need to install

See if you can download the driver FREE from the HP website. Search for your model. If you are on Vista, it may NOT support the older printers.

If not, try driverguide.com. The latter you have to sign up for but it is free.

Garbage printing

Hold both buttons while powering on the printer. Hold them both for a least 20 seconds and release. When trouble-shooting fails, sometimes the NVRAM can be the reason for the strange behaviors.

Shadow print from 2200d laser printer

This shadow, or backgrounding, is generally caused by excess debris remaining on the drum. This is mostly caused by the wiper blade not dislodging all the waste toner. You will need to replace the cartridge (C4096A).

Does not print lowercase "f"

This is definitely a software problem. Or pssibly a keyboard problem. Not as printer or driver issue.
