This is the typical convergence failure you can read about over and over on this website. It will take a couple of STK amp IC's maybe a resistor or 2. if you don't solder well don't try it. It should cost you a couple hundred bucks if you take it in maybe three in your home

Our television just began having what looks like a 'double screen'...or the picture has a 'shadow'...and also looks as though the entire screen 'curves' ..at the top and bottom of the screen it is...

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. First of all please check whether all the cables from your dish network are fine and connected firmly. If yes then you'll need to pull off the front of the TV, behind the speaker grill there would be a panel. Remove the panel and check for a black box hanging over there. It has 6 controls on it, 3 are marked as focus and 3 as screen. You'll need to adjust the screen. If you turn these too high you can damage the tube. So you need to do only a small adjustment. Turn the color off on the TV and adjust the red, blue & green controls up till you get a fine picture. Also adjust the focus until you get a clear picture.

And, if it doesn't resolve your issue then it is an intermittent blue picture tube, a bad blue driver transistor on the CRT board, a bad connection on the blue CRT board or a problem in the RGB coming from the video jungle IC. The price to resolve the issue will most likely run you about 300 to 500 bucks, unless it is the picture tube.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

SONY PROJECTION TV MODEL # KP-51WS510.

If the entire screen is curved, and it is not taking the whole screen, then you have a vertical deflection problem.

If the colors are double and do not match, with lines of different colors around pictures , then you have a convergence problem, often caused by a faulty convergence board.

The curving effect can be a side effect of bad convergence, or you may have both problems at once.

Unless you are a TV repairer yourself, better calling technical support. Usually you can ring the number listed on the owner manual.

Did you use the Automatica Convergence to try and straighten it out? If that does not help, you can manually adjust the convergence.
