I have a horiz.line about 1/4" thick across my screen, it is in color and you can tell the picture is moving, sound works fine and you can change channels, in the past this has happened and a couple of whacks on the back and the picture would come back, the tv is five years old.
You probably just need to resolder the vertical output IC. It will be mounted on a heat sinc. probably 7-10 pins. Part number may start with "LA" like LA7845 or similar, there are others though. You will probably see the rings around the solder joints on the bottom of the board. Good Luck
