R U getting 'feedback'?i.e. if the speakers on the TV and your external speakers are pushing the same 'sound' towards each other there could be feedback.

SOURCE: No surround sound when watching TV

hdmi can only pass pcm 2.0 digital for the separate cables you may try to switch them to another output from the monitor to the receiver or if you can get your hands on a spd-if cable (one single fiberoptic cable that will go as high as 5.1 dolby surround)

SOURCE: NO SOUND FROM TV THROUGH THE SOUND SYSTEM SPEAKERS

Hello,
All you need to do is follow the following directions on your TV and you will be on your way listening to your great Philips TV on your great Sony Surround Sound. You do not need to buy any other cords or anything else. Its just a setting on your TV that needs to be adjusted.
By the way, I have a Sony Home Thearte System DAV-HDX275 and I've had it for almost 8 months and its sounds good with my TV and Movies. The speakers are very cheap and it doesn't give you the sound you expect. So I came accross some Boston Accustics CR65's that are not sold anymore but they did run around $700 a peice. I am upgrading the Reciever very soon to a better qualtiy Reciever. This Surround Sound System is great for a starter Surround Sound System.

  1. Press MENU on the remote control and select TV settings >
  2. Press up or down to highlight a sound setting and press right to select the setting.
  3. Press up or down to adjust the setting, and press OK to confirm the change.
  4. Press Menu to exit.
You want to pick Incredible Surround, but if that does not work try them all. The Incredible Surround should do the trick because that switches it from the TV Speakers to the Surround Sound.

Thank you for using Fix Ya!

Don't forget to rate the overall satisfaction of this solution.
Have a Great One!

Unable to get TV sound and dvd sound through the surround sound speakers with samsung compatible tv and blu ray player

Hi,Even though you have not mentioned about the cabling connections you have done, for the sake of correct connection I describe all the possible cabling alternatives to you..You can select whichever you want..

TO WATCH DVD ON THE TV:
** Receiver's "AUDIO and VIDEO OUTPUT as " 2xRCA Audio+1x Video " or "Optic Cable OUTPUT or " HDMI Output " of your Home Theater Receiver (whichever you want ,based on the existing sockets and necessary cables on your hand )
** AT TV side : you need to connect "Audio+ Video input s " as can either be : 3xRCA jacks or "Optic cable input " or HDMI IN connector of your TV ,
** than just switch to DVD mode on Receiver and play DVD
*
You can use "HDMI" connections as well but sometimes HDMI creates problem on Audio..

TO LISTEN YOUR TV ON SURROUND SYS.
** AT TV side : you need to connect "Audio Output " as can either be : 2xRCA jacks or "Optic cable output" or HDMI connector of your TV ,
** to Receiver's "TV input "or "AUX input" or "Optic Cable input"
or HDMI of your Home Theater Receiver (whichever you want ,based on the existing sockets and necessary
cables on your hand )
** than just switch to respective SOURCE mode on
Receiver corresponding the connector you have used on the back of Receiver ..
*
You can use "HDMI" connections as well but sometimes HDMI creates problem on Audio..

Pls remember.."IN " goes to "OUT" or vice versa..all the times..

There you go..Both Tv and DVD sound are on the
Receiver as SURROUNDING SOUND .By this means ,whatever you watch on the TV will come thru your Receiver's SURROUNDING SOUND speakers as well .

Hope this helps!..if more help requires pls let me know.
Take care

I have this receiver hooked up to a Vizio LED tv and a Vizio Blue Ray using HDMI cables. The surround sound works from the speakers while watching a dvd (HDMI -1 connection) but I have no surround sound...

AV cables don't pass surround sound through, they are pretty much just left and right stereo. You need to turn pro logic on on the reciever to "pretend" to play surround. The better option of course would be to use a digital signal like another HDMI cable or digital optical audio from the cable box, if thats what your using.

Can't figure out why there isn't an out on my curtis mathes for surround sound with sub. When we bought the "tv" from a friend we thought it was a "flat screen tv" it says on...

In most cases the TV is used just as an input device, and they frequently have no output jacks. Usually the TV is hooked up as part of a home theater system, and is used as a video monitor while the sound is taken care of by a receiver or amplifier. The sound comes from the video source (DVD player, set-top box, etc.). Some TV sets have audio output available, but it sounds like yours doesn't. If you want to have surround sound, you'll need to invest in a receiver and speakers.

I have a JVC TH-S3 surround sound system and would like to know if I can l watch television in surround sound as i can watch dvd's and listen to the radio in surround sound. thanks

Yes you can get simulated 5.1 surround sound from your TV as well as radio. Just switch the JVC surround mode to Pro Logic II movies or music In some systems it will display only PLII.
Just connect the TV audio out to the JVC Aux input at the back ( red and white sockets ).
