Oreck XL21 I have an Oreck XL21 which is only about a year old and after I took it apart to change the belt it would not move when vacuuming against the "nap" of the carpet/rugs. I took it in to have the person who generally repairs my vacuums and he could not repair it either. We have tried using both the Normal and Special settings for the brush and it does not make any difference. I do not have plush carpets - just berber and low pile rugs. On each of the areas it will vacuum with the "nap" of the rug/carpet, but not against it. It seems like the brush is too low, but I cannot find any way to adjust the setting of the brush. I have checked to be sure the brush roll is properly has been properly installed. Before this happened the vacuum was great and vacuumed in all directions. Does any one have any suggestions? Thank you for any suggestions you can give me.

You can also set the brush to the middle setting of the special/ normal brush settings. Also, your micro-sweep blade might have popped off making it very hard to push in that direction. The micro-sweep is the plate held by two screws right below the intake with the little blade that sticks up.

What does the belt tension feel like? Is it possible that the new belt you fitted is a bit too long (and starts to slip as soon as it encounters any real resistance). Any more methodical diagnosis is going to depend on observing which bits of the machine are still moving, and which aren't when the brush roll is stuck. Gather this information with caution, as it's a good way to lose a couple of fingertips. A.

MANUAL ORECK XL21

The Oreck XL21 is a refurbished XL vacuum. All Oreck manuals are available here: http://www.oreck.com/Product-User-Guides/global-user-guide,default,pg.html . Scroll down to the upright vacuums; the XL21 manual is below the Gold Power Team and XL21600 manuals. The direct link to the manual is http://demandware.edgesuite.net/aajc_prd/on/demandware.static/Sites-oreck-Site/Sites-oreck-Library/default/v1360683265798/images/userguides/Vacuum-RefurbishedXL21-XL21-userguide.pdf . The XL21 uses many of the same parts as the XL Platinum.

I hope this helps.

Oreck xl won't start

This could be for various reasons. Check the power cord and try a different outlet first. See if the power cord is loose or damaged. Next check the brushroll and belt that those are in working order. If you smelt burning or electrical fire or your vacuum made an odd noise before stopping it may be the motor going bad. If your power cord is good and the brushroll and belt good, it is probably your motor going bad.

Simply won't turn on!

I believe all Oreck vacuums have a lifetime warranty. You should pursue that.

The roller has stopped rotating and I wanted to see if the belt needs changing. I cannot find out how to get to where the old belt is located.

Remove the bottom to find the belt. There is usually a spare in the compartment. I think there is 8 or 10 screws.

Check that the beater bar is completely clear of thread, this will bring the brush roll back to normal. Also check the sides of the brush roll doesn't have anything such as thread or thick string at the sides.
