Question about Onkyo Audio Players & Recorders
The set up:(1) HDMI cable from Sky HD box to Onkyo,(2) Digital optical from Sky to Onkyo and (3) Onkyo OUT to TV HDMI1 or 2 (tried both just in case). Sky sound option set to: Dolby Digital Onkyo is set to CBL/SAT HDMI3 audio source for HDMI3 set to OPT1(tried 1 &2) also tried assigning a different HDMI(on Onkyo) to OPT1/2 but get the same result:- What is happening i.e. the problem: so when I put on a DD source i.e. A film in DD etc through sky and I have the Sky box directly to my TV I get Dolby Digital no problem but when I decide to run the SKY box though the onkyo i.e. take an HDMI from sky box to the HDMI on the onkyo the sound signal goes to normal TV LOGIC etc... that is to say the digital sound is lost and if I plug the HDMI back to the TV direct in HDMI1 or 2 I get the digital back again... this is driving me nuts!, I know I have a work around but why does it do this?
SOURCE: new home theater setup- no signal at tv using onkyo tx=sr605
This might somewhat help. Today I went back .. I went HDMI out of the Cable box and DVD player into 2 of the TVs HDMI ins. The digital audio out from each, straight to the receiver and things are working ok. All speakers are working OK. Sound isnt as loud or crisp but unfortunately I found no other solution.

SOURCE: No surround sound from my PS3 through the Onkyo 5100. Video OK
Unfortunately only the higher end Onkyo Reciever pass audio over HDMI for sound. 605,705,805,905 exc. Your reciever will carry Video over HDMI but you will need a digital optical cable for sound.
thanks.

SOURCE: 8' Optical Cable from TV to Receiver and Signal is Breaking Up
Before you buy anything try checking the AUDIO Settings in the Menu of Each Device (Mostly TV) and see if they are set to PCM or BITSTREAM. HDMI is mostly set to PCM while Optical is generally Bitstream. The TV may be set to the opposite of what it needs to be. I would try to get PCM to work first cause it is Better, If not then set what you can to Bitstream and it should pass. Also check in TV Menu for SOUND OUT or AUDIO OUT or SPEAKERS. Some TV's have a problem passing Audio through when they are already Outputting them to it's own Speakers! I Hope this Helps out!
