Hello,
I am have this vertical line going across the entire height of my jvc 56g786 dila TV. It looks like its about 2 pixels wide. Does anyone know what is wrong with it? Do I need to get the light engine replaced?
thanks,
Terence

To clarify, are the 3 black lines horizontal (left to right across entire width of screen)? or are the 3 black lines vertical (top to bottom across entire height of screen)?
Horizontal lines are almost always the result of a failed panel, and no board replacement will fix the issue.
Vertical lines such as you have described (only 3) are probably also a bad panel. If the black lines were evenly spaced in a repeating pattern, it could be a mainboard or TCONN board.
Has this panel been cracked? or perhaps cleaned recently with too much water or cleaning solvent that has gotten the screen wet?
Sounds like vertical height problem. Check and replace all the electrolytic capacitors [5 or 6 of it]; at its vertical scan output section circuit. Replace all of it at one time. Some of these had problems where the micro for the Dlp gets confused, they have a jig to connect the set to a computer and download two updates on sd cards---it may or may not cure this but this is a shop repair.
The faint white lines at the top of the screen is the warning that the pump-up capacitor in the vertical output circuit is going bad and the output itself is about to short out. When the TV stops working, the vertical output IC has finally shorted out. Replacing the vertical output IC, the pump-up capacitor and possibly a small value resistor next to the flyback (B+ for the v-out) should bring the set back to life.
There are capacitors in the vertical circuit that can cause this problem. You may be able to find these capacitors by using a hair dryer pointed to the suspected bad cap and then when the problem happens you can spry a little cooling spray on it to see if the problem clears up. The vertical output IC could be going bad but this can be checked the same way. if you have no TV solid state repair experience, play it safe and take this set into a local repair depot. Good Luck
