Question about Kenmore 23612 Progressive PowerMate Bagged Canister Vacuum
My vacuum when used on the carpet makes a burnt smell. And when I use on the floor no smell. What could it be? I've cleaned all the rollers and changed filters and bags. THanks in advance.
My guess would be a slightly loose belt - tight enough to spin the roller on a hard floor, but loose enough to slip (then get hot and stink) when the roller is having to work against the pile of a carpet. Worth buying and fitting a new belt without pausing to investigate further, simply because they're so cheap and you'll have to replace it sooner or later anyway. A.

My vacuum is smelling like something is burning. I have just cleaned the filter out well. I was told at the store yesterday it could be a belt. Can you help?
Thanks.
Margie
I understand the vacuum needs a belt replaced, I'm trying to figure out how to dis-assemble to get to the beater bar and belt for replacement. Lost my manual, where to find diagram/schematic for roller head. Online offers a lot of places to call or go to or have service come out. It's just a little thing that can be done at home. Where would one go online to get that info? Kenmore canister 51612001
be bought a new belt, It deffinatly seems to be the belt. It runs without the belt fine. Once you add the belt it smells aweful and gets really hot. It has a new belt on there, so we wonder why the belt is loose and giving us these problems....
