I have a 4 year old Maytag Performa washing machine. Regardless

Of what load capacity it is set, it just keeps filling. At about half full the water runs out of the bottom of the machine

Hi!!! You seem to have a bad water level switch..If you turn on the water and water just fills in and doesn't stop then you have a bad water level switch..If you just turn it on and water enters then you have a bad water valve..Good luck..

Clean out the water-level switch air dome tube AND the the connection to the tub where the tube connects. It may well be full of gunk and not allowing the water level switch to react quickly enough.

Washing Machine wont recoginze the load amount to fill with water, ex..small, med, it justs keep filling up to the brim??

Sounds like your problem is one of three things. Most common is that you have to "reset" the water level. This is done by turning the water level knob passed the large load size, and then down to small. Any time you want to go to a smaller sized load, you have to do this. Another possibility is that the pressure switch is bad, this is an easy fix (although not as easy as the reset) The switch can be purchased thru a local parts supply house. And the last thing could be a bad water valve. This will leak and continue to fill the washer after it is already full, this however is usually followed with water all over the floor. If it is not the reset, write me back and I'll walk you thru the other repairs. Hope this helps!

It sounds like the belt broke or the lid switch could be bad. Use a screw driver to manipulate the switch with the machine on. If you can tip the thing back enough to check the belt. I hope this helps.

Maytag Washer overflowwing

I had the same problem. My whole basement flooded. Inside the back (you can see it thru a small hole 1/2 way up on right) a small white hose connects to the water shut off collection area. This hose carries the water from the tub to the collection area and tells the machine to cut off for the size of load selected. Mine had come undone and so the machine could not sense it was full and the water poured all out the bottom. I simply removed the small gray panel at the bottom on the back and reached up inside to reconnect.
