How to install/dual boot Linux on your mac

you need to A) download a copy of linux (i always use ubuntu) http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download B) burn that copy of linux to a CD (to do this you need to go to your disk utility app and click burn image to disk and than select the iso you chose, using other software the option will be something like "create mountable disk" OR "burn bootable image") C) boot to that cd--- to do this you put the cd in and reboot your mac while holding the 'C' key D) open the partition editor and create a partition on your hardrive the size that you want linux to be (idealy replacing the main partition on your computer not one of the smaller boot partition) *Optional- If you are planning on dual booting do not replace the main partition completely instead create a new linux partition from the main partition's free space additionally if you are dual booting and using Leopard or later you can use the bootcamp app to create a partition than use the linux partition editor to format the bootcamp partition to free space and than install linux on it E) once you have the partition made simply follow the initial instructions to install there will be an installer app that replaces your now free partition with linux. *if you chose to dual boot to access linux simply hold the 'Alt' key when booting up and than highlight the linux/windows HD Enjoy

Intel core2duo no sound windows xp

I take it the laptop is dual boot and the sound works ok when used under Mac OSX.
If this is the case, then the laptop probably needs the audio drivers for windows. These can be downloaded from the Apple website (Bootcamp Drivers) or by using the 'Bootcamp' utility on the Mac side.

If parallel or Bootcamp for intel Macs is installed on my MAC, can Age of Empires: Rise of Rome be played with out a CD in CDROM drive?

Yes, just download the file for Age of Empires: Rise of Rome as if you were on a PC, then install it through Bootcamp. However It may be cheaper just to buy the game because Bootcamp is not exactly cheap. If you want to do this for multiple games then Bootcamp would be the way to go.

Used bootcamp and tryed to install windows and got disc error ,now wont go back to normal statas. how do i fix?

Insert the Mac OS disk in the drive and reboot while holding down the C key. This will launch your computer in Mac OS and then you can access Disk Utility from the startup window.
Rebuild/ repair as needed, then I suggest removing any partition that you may have set up and re partition your drive for the windows stuff. Give yourself ample room on the harddrive for your windows software and files.
Be sure to print out a copy of the instructions for bootcamp before you launch... also be sure to allow it to automatically set up your mac for windows. Do this:
1.set up a partition according to the directions for bootcamp
2. install windows as per bootcamp instructions
3. after it's launched in windows, insert the Mac OS disk and it will launch all the setup for your mac hardware to run windows... modem, wifi, all that mojive that you usually need to spend hours in PC land ..mac will set it up for you.. Also download a copy of Bonjour from the Apple site. this will set up your printers for use in windows very easily and quickly..
The main thing is follow the directions and let the computer do all the setup...

My windows Xp on mac wont run

Hi there,

Try getting the latest version of bootcamp again, and making sure you create the driver cd it asks you to create during the install.

This part is critical as it installs the software needed for your keyboard and mouse to be recognised by windows xp.

Parallels

Install bootcamp. It is the certified parallel for the dual core. If you already have it installed, try installing XP again, or Vista.

I would suggest you look in to Apple's Bootcamp. Although you do not want to run in a dual-boot configuration, Bootcamp allows you to create a CD with all of the Mac's windows drivers.

I appologize but I am not totally sure if 1) the Bootcamp drivers contain a camera driver and 2) if the camera works at all within Parallels.

Worth a shot though.
