a black box will appear, covering about half of the screen, while watching a live show such as Fox News. The box will go away for about 10 seconds each time we change the volume. This dose not happen on prerecorded stations or shows (commercials on Fox).

it sounds like you have a widescreen video on your 4:3 tv. the black bars on top and bottom widen the screen picture.

No Picture or Sound

I dont think it's worth getting a repair man to come fix a Symphonic TV... honestly, they are problem prone... and It would cost much less to just buy a whole new one. I have a symphonic tv with no remote, and now, I cant switch into game mode! It's like they designed their tv's to be crappy!

Tv Has Big Black Box

shut off close caption. use the CC button onthe remote or go in to the menu and change close caption to CC1. this box is the close caption in TEXT(1,2) which will put on a black box whenever there is caption present.
