SOURCE: Deleted files from my PNY 4GB flash drive are still taking up space.

Most flash drive comes with its on date support files on it. If those had not been removed then, yes it will show some space used.

SOURCE: can't add or delete files

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!
Try formatting the drive using the option available in Microsoft Windows (before that try back up the important data on that drive), if the problem still persists, try using Forced USB formatter Utility, do tell us with the results. Hoping to hear from you soon.

Concerned.

ACCIDENTY TRASHED 2 EXTREMELY IMPORTANT FILES...CAN THEY BE RECOVERED ? IF I HAVE TO SEND IT OFF OR HAVE SOMETHING DONE THAT COSTS, MONEY IS NO OBJECT

When you deleted files and folders on your flash drive, they don't goes to trash. Deleting won't make them erase permanently. Those deleted files and folders are still stored on your flash drive, they're just invisible or inaccessible. You can recover deleted files from flash drive with flash drive recovery software. I had succeed with Tenorshare Data Recovery.
Anyway, you can download it and scan your flash drive for free to preview whether you can recover your files. It will show you the file name, type, date and size of your files and thumbnails for your pictures that it found on your drive.Get it from http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/datarecoverystandard.htm

Unmountable boot disk error on blue screen

first, recover your files. You will need to use some data recovery program like asoftech data recovery. you can download it from
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Back-Up-and-Recovery/Asoftech-Data-Recovery.shtml

I've had to use it many times in the past but in this case you need to plug that drive into another system as an external drive or slave drive and run the software from there. It will rebuild the drive and hopefully recover the files.

After you get back your files, you can then format the drive and reinstall your system.

Hi I have a transcend jetflash d33193 4Gb flash that won't format. It tells me the flash is write protected and i don't she any physical lock. i have tried every possible thing i know on it but it...

The message which you are facing while formatting your flash drive maybe be due to below reasons.
1) It could be due to virus. Try to scan your flash drive with your anti-virus and check.
2) Second reason would be when you connecting your flash drive it may include some autorun files which starts its own when you connect your flash drive and because that file is running it wont allow to be formatted, so try to delete all the files including in your flash drive and than try formatting.
or
There is right protect switch on many pen drives , a physical write protect switch which enables you to either allow writing on the disk or disallow writing on the disk.

All you need to do is toggle the right protect switch and you would be able to write files on your pen drive.

Hi,
Download/Install UNLOCKER
This is a Freeware Utility very handy to delete the locked file.
After Installation, Right-Click the cda file and choose delete option. (It may tell you that the file would be deleted after reboot)
Restart the system to delete the file.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

When trying to format, copy files into flash, deletinf files,i get the message "remove write protection". so how can i remeve it?

One of two things:
Either your flash drive/card has a hardware copy protect on it (usually in the form of a little tab) Just be sure that it is turned off.
Or
You've somehow managed to tick the "read only" box on your files. Highlight the files, right click, go to properties, and unclick the checkbox for "read only". This may have to be done as administrator.

I'm really opting for the first one, Most people don't realize that their card or stick has copy protection on it and wonder why they can't delete files.

If nothing else works, you can always use a software program called unlocker - http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml
It integrates into windows explorer and allows you to delete files in use, locked files, etc, etc.

When I try to delete files it says that they are protected and cant be deleted. I can not cnage the attributes to delete them.

Restart your computer and go into safemode then try deleting them, if that doesn't work make sure you have administrator rights and allow all privileges to you then delete the files.
