Question about JVC Cybercam GR-D200US Mini DV Digital Camcorder
I have connected my camera to my laptop via a USB cable and whilst the laptop will read the SD card and has downloaded them using my new sony camcorder software it will not transfer the tape contents. I'm using the software supplied with the JVC camera, Image Mixer, but it simply will not recognise the camera it states no camera is connected. Anyone got any ideas please? I went to Maplin electronics for a firewire cable but was told this would not work???

My Sony camcorder wouldn't work with firewire either until I downloaded a fix at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=CA0F2007-18B5-4112-8BD6-8BF4BD3130B9&displaylang=en
Hope that helps!

I would try the following:
1) check for an update to the image mixer software here
2) see if jvc customer support can/will help
3) uninstall the image mixer software and try using windows movie maker instead

All you have to do, is make sure your computer has a FireWire card in it, and get a cable and hook it up it will automaticalty reconize the device and open up windows movie maker.

You can download user manual in PDF format from this link:
http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-instructions-owner-manual/JVC/GR-D770U-_E
but that's not a point. The point is that you can use any video editing software (with no driver), that accepts capture mode starting from standard Windows Movie Maker for beginners to CyberLink PowerDirector, Ulead DVD MovieFactory or similar. This can be made by plugging your camcorder to PC via USB or FireWire (iLink, IEEE1394). Of course you can record to Digital Video Unit Equipment (DVD recorder) if you have one. Good luck!

Product called EasyCap, for about 15 bucks, "can be found online" Has USB plug. Use your cable that has the 3.5 pin that goes out to rca cable, yellow, white and red. EasyCap has the RCA to USB then to computer. Use Windows Movie Maker, comes with XP & Vista, capture while playing from there. I just converted about 20 full tapes from one cannon mini 8 and 15 from a jvc dv onto a TB drive.
